BOC is a band that has constantly renewed itself during its career. Indeed, what is there in common between, say, an album like "tyranny and mutation" and this 1985 record ?Club Ninja features some really catchy tunes, like "Dancing in the ruin" or "Make rock not war" and in that respect can be compared to "Agents of fortune", one of their more commercial albums. But where "Agents of fortune" was sometimes poppy, this album has a really heavy feel to it, sometime sounding very much like the typical 80's hard rock music, with the boys singing the chorus altogether and the catchy guitar riff behind, sometime showing the typical BOC sound, with eerie atmospheres and very weird lyrics indeed.
This is an excellent album because BOC have always been very good at delivering immediate songs that go straight into your head and never leave. On the other hand it still sounds like BOC, so the band has nothing to be ashamed of.Although it is very commercial it failed to chart and this is a wonder because "Club Ninja " is a massive record, one of their finest anyway. Outrageously underrated !
