5.0 out of 5 stars Clover by Clamp - not just a comic book. 27 July 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I don't understand why manga books are listed as children's books - they're anything but. Clover is a manga that can be enjoyed by anyone, whatever their age. The story revolves around Suu - a "four leaf clover" - a being with very strong magical powers. She is a mysterious, lonely girl, who loves to sing, and has two mechanical wings which she can make appear at will. In the first book, she is put in the care of Kazuhiko, a man with a painful past. He must deliver her safely to "Fairy Park". "Clover", like all Clamp books, has stunning artwork. It's presented in a high quality fashion, and its something that you have to read more than once. It requires thought and imagination - it will certianly make you think. A must-buy for Clamp fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and beautifully presented 3 Sep 2004
Format:Paperback
I ordered all 4 books and was quite surprised when they arrived. They are quite slim novels with beautiful presentation covers and the first page of each book coloured with sturdier pages. I was a bit dubious about buying this series from what id heard. All ill say is it is a very unique style. The story is there but in a more subtle way than most. As one of the other reviewers said there is a song repeated throughout. It can get a little annoying at times, but it is a subtle way to remind you of the characters at hand and their individual stories. I think this book couldve been in much more depth but i still find that the 4 volumes in themselves are complete with qualtity artistry by clamp again. i would recommend at least buying one for the style (to see if it suits you) and also to see the beauty of the books themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars wheeee............ 17 Mar 2002
Format:Paperback
i don't know if you get it from ordering from amazon, but my copy (bought from a shop, nonetheless) has a brilliant silver-embossed tracing paper slipcase translating the abstract poetry on the cover itself in japanese.

The manga itself is simply beautiful, in a tone reminiscent of the quiet introspection of serial experiments: lain. It's very different to other CLAMP works as far as i can tell (definitely dissimilar to Cardcaptor Sakura). Not that Cardcaptor Sakura isn't good - i bought volumes 1-4 and wasn't disappointed - it just has a very different style...

Anyway, it's good. Darn good. I want to buy the next volume, but i'm holding out for finding a copy with the slipcase. Ah........

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful 19 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
i bought these on e-bay on a whim because i though id never get a chance to read it any other time and id never pay £30 for a single copy so i bough the set a little steep but after reading them i found it was money well spent, they come with a beautiful (tracing paper) cover with the translations from the cover which i like, they also have a very thick 2 page colour illistration at the beggining and end of ever book the paper is good quality aswell and theyre quite heavy.
the art in it is very pretty and detailed but there are no backgrounds to the frames but this works with the story because it stops it becoming too crouded but it also makes it a lot easyer to read and adds to the beauty of the books.
the story is pretty engrossing you dont get too much information and although every little detail isnt explain i really dont care because everything just seems to fall into place and makes it much more enjoyable to read and it reminds me of a film because the pages are not too crouded scenes stick in your mind and you remember them better.
very lovely books and id recomend them to anyone who for the art and the story becasue of the price of these books now though, id recomend it to older teens who will appreciate and look after the book but adults and children alike will get along with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so great 9 Feb 2003
By Edain VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I was really looking forward to reading Clover, but I'm afraid it didn't live up to my expectations. At only four books long, you'd expect the story to get going quickly, but all the first book tells you is a bit about Kazuhiko's job, not nearly enough to tell us what his job even is. The same poem is repeated again and again until it's irritating. There is hardly any dialogue and, after a short time, no background drawings, meaning you soon forget where the characters have gone.

Such a pity, as the art is beautiful and the presentation of the book is sublime.
