Just when you thought that Pixar and DreamWorks had the monopoly on computer animated movies, along comes Sony with the delightful Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and splashes enough imagination on the screen to make any of its rivals sit up and take notice.
Appreciating that the source material is spread a little too thinly for the film to be an outright classic, what really helps Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is the wonderful way it’s been realised. Blessed with a bright, vibrant colour palette, some fabulous voice talent--whoever cast Mr T deserves many medals--and an engaging story, it’s a very good film that serves a family audience well.
It’s also one of the very first films to be released in 3D on Blu-ray. You need a 3D television to feel the benefit, but obviously there are rewards to be reaped here if your technology is already in place. Capturing the quality of the cinematic 3D presentation, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is a fine candidate for 3D, and the film looks quite wonderful here.
A sequel has already been commissioned, unsurprisingly, but it’s a film that’s got a job and a half on its hands. For Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is a lovely movie, and one that sets high standards to live up to. --Jon Foster

The clarity of this movie is unbelievable. I received the 3D version of Monsters vs Aliens as a gift with purchase when I bought my 3D TV and to be honest I was pretty dissapointed in the 3D effects of the movie. But this movie has restored my faith in 3D movies. There is no ghosting and the picture is crisp, clean and jumps out at you like 3D movies should (I believe).
My kids love this movie. It has a very original story line and the characters look so real. This a great family movie and has something for the kids and the adults, with some whitty one liners.

All the other reviews here seem to just talk about the film....BUT WHAT ABOUT THE 3D?
I can tell you that I have just finished watching this in glorious 3D and it is the business.
Leaving the story behind I can say that the 3D experience is every bit as good as the cinema, if not better as I can sit at home with a beer and watch this one with the family.
I have tested this using the Samsung syncmaster 2233 3d lcd and the Acer H5360 projector, using the new and updated version of Cyberlink Powerdvd 10 installed on a Windows 7 pc with the nVidia 3D transmitter and glasses.
The Samsung has the same ghosting issues that all 3D LCD seems to have but the Acer H5360 projector was fantastic, no ghosting just amazing pop out imagery !
I have also tested this film in 3D with an Optoma HD67 with drivers acquired from the nVidia forums and it too is flawless in 3D playback.
If you have the kit for 3D gaming on the PC then all you need is the Powerdvd 10 software and today's latest update from their website and you are good for Bluray 3D. Also the Powerdvd software will convert ALL of your 2D media into 3D on the fly.
Hope this is a bit more informative than 'my Gran loved this film etc etc etc'.

Worth a watch
Okay but predictable story line. 3D effects rather good. Good for viewers of all ages. Underlying story line an indictment of the affects of today's ever increasing consumerism.
