5.0 out of 5 stars Clouds and Rainsbows and stuff 17 Sep 2005
Format:Paperback
This is one of the best science books you'll ever read. Craig Bohren explains the whys and hows of many everyday weather phenomena is an clear, concise and highly amusing way. This is one of few books that will appeal to, and be understood by, everyone who is interested in science, from a bright young teenager to a physics graduate. There are loads of simple but illuminating experiments that can be carried out using a few simple things you can find at home or buy easily for pennies. You'll never look at a cloud or rainbow in the same way again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing change 28 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was recommended for my atmospheric physics course, as it often provides an alternative, simple view on what can be tricky topics. It is easy to pick up and put down, and can be read in sections. It also appeals to an audience ranging from teenagers to graduates, though teenagers may find it slightly hard going as some of the topics can get complicated, and often provides a more hands-on approach to what can be abstract ideas.
Excellent book for it's price, even if you only dip into it once.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Primer 4 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, full of fascinating facts and insights into atmospheric phenomena, to be honest you don't look at the world in quite the same way again: looking for frost-free areas beneath trees, glories and mixing clouds everywhere. Also some answers to questions that I had never thought about: if the distance to the horizon arises from attenuation, how come you can see stars at night?

That said, the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars, is that I think anybody who does not have some sort of a scientific background might struggle with this book; its a delight to somebody like myself who does have such a background, but might be a bit much to wade through for somebody who doesn't.

I'm also using it as a primer for looking at the science of Global warming as the Section on this seems to me to be relatively unbiased.
