Product Description

Imagine a planet entirely covered in clouds...

Imagine an ocean of cloud, stretching away as far as the eye can see, forever shifting and changing...

Imagine peaks rising out of the clouds, their gentle slopes covered in fields and orchards...

Imagine a citadel standing on each peak...

Heliopolis. A prosperous citadel divided into five layers, its rigid social structure ensuring that it is run efficiently and the citizens know their place.

But there is one uncertainty that all Heliopolitans share. What lies beneath the impenetrable sea of cloud? An abyss of nothingness? The fiery realm of the god, Omnium? 14-year-old Marcus is about to find out.

Isolated and lonely, Prince Marcus lives in the soulless palace at the very top of the citadel. When his father fails to return from a diplomatic mission, Marcus mounts an expedition across the cloudscape in search of him. But he discovers too late that danger lies closer to home - somebody wants him dead. And when his flying vessel is sabotaged, Marcus finds himself plunged into a terrifying new world beneath the clouds...

I would actually give this book 10 stars if there were 10 to give! I was gripped from the 1st page - with the journey for 14 year old Marcus beginning above the clouds in Heliopolis and through the actions of the darstardly Titus falling to the very gloomy cold and frightening unknown world below that was to be a rite of passage from child to man.

I found this book to be very refreshing and exhilerating and come the end of the story wanted more. How dare David Cunninham leave me in the lurch!! I want to know what happens to Marcus, his friends, Heliopolis and the Cloudfarers left behind in the new world. Book 2 if there is a book 2 cannot come fast enough. I recommend this book for ALL age groups.

Cloud World was one of those impulse buys. I had never before seen anything like it, and so was very tempted to simply "have a go". And I'm really glad I did. Cunningham has managed to maneuver a unique and captivating story line, with superbly developed characters, into a fantastic novel, worthy of any book prize. The concept of a "Cloud World" was fascinating, and completely imaginative - and combined both technologically advanced theories - completely believable to the letter I might add - with a story line made believable, as Cunningham endeavored to lose the entire "fantasy" feel and make the novel more adventurous. This is why I feel the book would be suitable for everyone. You don't need a particular interest or hobby in order to relate to this book, as everything is thoroughly explained, eliminating moments where you're struggling to understand what is happening. I first read this book when I was 11, so younger readers will not struggle, but I think too that older readers will gt just as much as I did out of it. Why only four stars? When I had to put it down I didn't complain. Although I was eager to find out what happened it lacked the gripping - "page-turning" attribute that the best novels seamlessly maintain - all in all though, a brilliant read.

Although the book was very good,i have rarely read a more frustrating end.
It is about this boy who is a prince of this place, but he just wants to be treated like a normalperson and then he and some of his people he doesnt know that well end up in a strange place full of weird people under the clouds. The author Has to write a sequel. I would like more girls next time, i dont usually read books about boys!
This book has a mythological feel, most people(and places) are named after ancient Greek and Egyption myths.
