Book Description

Updated and Expanded in 2013

Cloud Computing Explained provides an overview of Cloud Computing in an enterprise environment. There is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm around cloud-based solutions and services as well as the cost-savings and flexibility that they can provide. It is imperative that all senior technologists have a solid understanding of the ramifications of cloud computing since its impact is likely to permeate the entire IT landscape. However, it is not trivial to introduce a fundamentally different service-delivery paradigm into an existing enterprise architecture.

This book describes the benefits and challenges of Cloud Computing and then leads the reader through the process of assessing the suitability of a cloud-based approach for a given situation, calculating and justifying the investment that is required to transform the process or application, and then developing a solid design that considers the implementation as well as the ongoing operations and governance required to maintain the solution in a partially outsourced delivery model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Technology Professional 19 Jan. 2010
John Rhoton's book on cloud computing is an excellent read for someone looking to understand the implications of moving away from traditional computing models to cloud-based models. This book focuses on the big picture, suitable for CTOs, CIOs, Solution Architects or indeed anyone wishing to understand the rationale and basis for cloud computing model.

If you are a decision-maker and cloud computing is on your radar screen this book is indispensable. If you just want to know a little more about cloud computing, then this is an excellent resource as well.

Overall, this is a great read putting cloud computing into meaningful, business-like context, both for those who know very little abut cloud computingand for those who think they know a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Introduction 10 Jan. 2011
The book covers all relevant topics for readers wishing to gain a good understanding of cloud concepts and implementation considerations. I found the content was well organised making the book very easy to read and to refer to. The reader will also find a host of useful external references which should greatly reduce the time spent searching the Web for further information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Execlent Starting Point 5 Oct. 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a must for Sales and Executives wanting to get on top of the "Cloud Hype" without getting deep into the technology. It is an easy read with no nonsense, thus quick to get through.
You dont need to have any prior knowledge and this will bring you up to speed quickly. If you do have a good understanding of technology, then this book will not offer any indepth revelations, but does offer clarity.
