4.0 out of 5 stars Vintage feel quilts & projects 12 Feb 2012
By Sewing Directory TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This book has a selection of vintage inspired projects which are split into 3 sections: Small projects, small quilts and full size quilts. Each of the projects have a materials list, cutting instructions and directions for assembling the projects as well as diagrams and photos.

Throughout the book you will also find useful tips, recipes and little historical tales too giving you the background on the items you are making. The majority of the projects are traditional quilting based and made up in repro 1930's fabrics, although there are some variations in modern fabrics too. The small projects at the start include aprons, tea towels, a table runner, place mats and a cushion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nimble fingers . . . . 4 July 2012
By Magee
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have only recently started making patchwork and stitched items, so the idea of several smaller things in this book caught my eye. I was not disappointed. There are lots or interesting things to make, none of them very complicated and all within a good budget. Have a look and have a go - I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Clear instructions and beautiful photographs help to make this a book worthy of the craft room shelves of beginner and expert alike.

A lovely book, bright pictures of some lovely patchwork. Not just quilts but projects that are big and small ranging from placemats and aprons to full size quilts. I hope to do some of these projects when I have time.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm disappointed 7 Jan 2012
By Evelyn K. Bogen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Given the positive reviews, I was expecting more from this book. The projects did not strike me as new and different from other books of this sort. My biggest disappointment was the number of quilts that require you buy specialty rulers. An experienced quilter can work around this, but I wouldn't recommend this book to a beginner without that warning. The projects include place mats, aprons, small quilts and a few larger projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I've been looking for! 1 Nov 2011
By Helen Marie Kirby - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The patterns in this book are adorable! My greatest stamp of approval goes to the very clear directions on techniques. This would be a wonderful book for a beginner because of the clear directions, but also a fun challenge to an experienced quilter. Having worked with 'newbies', I would recommend this book to them for instant gratification. Every step is explained and shown to perfection. I believe this is Darlene Zimmerman at her best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything seems do-able. 22 Dec 2011
By Pug Mum - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Some craft books charm me more than others, and this collection of projects I find particularly appealing. A few of the projects are perfect for gift giving--they can be done fairly quickly, and for using stash purchased out of love with no real project in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautuful!! 24 Feb 2012
By Stephanie A. Bowman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love this book. I keep looking at the quilt patterns and have already planned to make six different patterns. Thats a record for me! I usually only love 1 or 2 patterns in each quilt book. This is an outstanding book. I first saw it on the Sewing With Nancy show that featured the author. The patterns are clear and fun. This book is well worth the price and MORE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully photographed 28 Feb 2012
By J. Laidlaw - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a beautiful book from a pictorial sense. The photos are bright, cheerful and very inspiring. I was hoping for more variety and perhaps new inspiration. Most of these weren't anything I hadn't seen before. The directions are clear with techniques being explained in depth. However, as another reviewer said, a lot of specialty rulers were used. Although, I can work around that I do think it spoils the book when someone picks it up in ten years and those same rulers are no longer available. I prefer plain old fashioned techniques first and perhaps the ruler sections given as a bonus.
