Product Description

An explanation of Patrick's traditional and invented art techniques, including Tomographs; these are photographs that combine actual objects with cut-outs of his paintings. Woodroffe has developed a variety of resourceful techniques to produce natural-media artwork over the years, many of which are showcased in this book. Patrick James Woodroffe is an English artist, etcher and drawer, who specialises in fantasy science-fiction artwork, with images that border on the surreal. His achievements include several collaborations with well-known musicians, two bronze sculptures displayed in Switzerland and numerous books.

A must for the aspiring fantasy artist 19 Feb. 2013
By SoulThief - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I love fantasy art and fantasy artists - so I am probably very biased in scoring this book. Having said that, my copy of this is the best part of three decades old - being printed in 1986. Even though I look after it, it still has that "well read" look.

In this book Woodroffe explains his techniques in various media. I originally bought it because I liked to paint, and I learnt a lot from this book. He covers drawing, etching, mixed media, oils and tomographs. Most the work contained within this volume comes from his posters, album covers, and books. He does not go into too much depth and yet he explains everything nicely. I enjoyed learning from this.

I would recommend this to any lover of fantasy art.
