Product Description

Review

Poignant, witty and explosive (Hello!)

A pretty juicy read. We love Kelly's no-nonsense attitude and how every single detail, from exact conversations to which A-lister she was partying with, makes it feel like you're on the ride with her. But alongside the highs come the lows, and the sincerity and sadness with which Kelly writes about her two devastating miscarriages - both while she was dating Thom Evans - will move you to tears [...] An honest and eye-opening account. (Heat)

Book Description

An honest, revealing and beguiling autobiography from the popular star who's proved she's more than just a pretty face

I don't have an opinion either way on Ms Brook but having read some extracts from this book in the newspaper I thought I would give it a go. Firstly she dedicates the book to her boobs!! I suppose it's original but she is obviously admitting she knows she has very little talent and it's her boobs that get her noticed. Saying that, I do think she has a lovely figure. Very womanly and I like that she is not stick thin like so many Z listers nowadays.

The book didn't really tell me anything new. I feel like she doesn't have much of a personality. The beginning when she talks about all the foods she made her Dad when he was suffering from cancer made me think she had lived in 'LA la land' too long.

She doesn't really take responsibility for the breakdown of her many relationships but reading between the lines I would say she's definitely looking for the one. She doesn't talk about her current fiance in this book. I found one part upsetting and that was how she wanted to cope with the miscarriage of her baby who in my view was a stillborn but each to their own.

It's an OK read but nothing ground breaking.

Updated to add: Hm, well I suppose it's a good job she didn't talk about her latest Fiance in this book!

(WARNING: The review of this book may or more likely will contain spoilers!)

One might say that Kelly Brook is like a tropical fish in a tank: nice to look at...but that's about it. With this book "Close Up" the woman with the unfortunate habit of getting fired from TV presenting jobs so quickly and easily attempts to prove there is more to her than just a pretty face. However, some 286 pages later, I'm not convinced.

Some of the events covered in the book include Kelly dealing with her father's cancer and death whilst a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007; her early life and her time at the Italia Conti performing arts school in the hope of becoming a serious actress; stumbling into modelling through the trailer-trash Samantha Bond agency; her disastrous six-month stint as a presenter on The Big Breakfast; and a couple of fists flown during some of her relationships. There isn't too much elaboration on that last one, but she certainly didn't do herself any favours by laughing off those incidents in a TV interview.

One problem I had with "Close Up" is that the chapters are quite drawn out. At 286 pages this is not physically the longest book I've ever read. However there were many occasions where I would finish reading chunky paragraphs and then turn the page in the hope that the chapter would be nearing its conclusion, only to find a load more chunky paragraphs to plough through. Other books I've read were laid out and paced nicely, allowing you to take breaks at regular intervals if your eyes or jaw were getting tired. This one simply is not. Reading it can be tiresome.

Another issue I had was with Kelly herself.

Ok so I'm not the target audience and what did I expect to learn really - but given such a well written and genuinely moving first chapter the rest felt like it was a short summary of a larger read. Random detail given to some parts but then huge amounts of time skipped. Good to hear the person speak behind the tabloid headlines but left with more questions than answers.

I absolutely love kelly brook and this book really gives you an insight into how hard life is in the media. It's not just taking your clothes off and you're famous as most people think of her. She's such an inspiration and has achieved so much, you should read this boon and give her a chance to amaze you, you really should.
