Beverley Craven's eagerly awaited fourth album does not disappoint. The ten tracks highlight Beverley's versatile talent for songwriting and can thrill you one moment and move you the next.

The first track, 'Rainbows' is a superb, uplifting track announcing Beverley's return with a resounding cheer. Track two, 'All Yours' would not be out of place on her third album, 'Mixed Emotions' and has a beautiful rhythmic beat.
'Without Me', track three, is a heartbreaking number layered with hope. Beverley is one of the few writers who can reach this level of emotion without reducing it to schmaltz.

The rest of the album continues to tell stories of sadness and joy. The absolute highlight is the penultimate number, 'Fun, Fun, Fun' which proves Ms Craven has a superbly wry sense of humour as the irony hits the ivories.

Although it has been a long wait, this album is one which remains in heavy rotation and I certainly hope there is a lot more to come.

The wait for this fourth album has been far too long but it has certainly been worth it! Here is a collection of tracks that represent everything that is so good about Beverley Craven's music. As usual with this master musician, Beverley composes all the words and music and she has lost none of the magic that was self-evident in her earlier albums. The production is top rate and with quality musicians such as Felix Krish and Gary Sanctuary providing backup to Beverley's hauntingly beautiful voice, this album is a treat to the ears as well as the senses. Not for nothing has she sold more than 4 millions albums worldwide. All the tracks on this album sound good and then they really grow on you with the second and third listening. Of particular note is the first track "Rainbows" which is bright and lively yet carries a surprisingly profound message in the lyrics. But the third track, "Without Me" is arguably one the best that Beverley has ever written. As anybody who has been privileged enough to catch Beverley and her superb band during their current UK tour will have learned, this track was written at a very difficult time for her. Anyone who has the life experience of given parental love to a child will understand the poignancy of this lyric and to have carried this message off without recourse to excessive sentimentality is the mark of a true literary talent. We live in challenging times and there is a lot wrong with the world at this present juncture. Beverley Craven's beautiful words and music make this world a better place to live in.

Back with her trademark touches of wit and irony, still telling stories with that unique vocal style. Beverley Craven makes a great return to form with an album that grows on you each time you hear it (always the best sort). The voice seems to have a touch more vulnerability than it used to have and it works so well with these songs. The production matches the tracks perfectly and I look forward to more to come.

I found out about this album via Facebook and am I pleased, I am the closet fan, the one with all the albums looking to hear more. As soon as I heard about the album I acquired it and am really pleased to hear that her style of music has changed very little. Quite often artists that have been away from the limelight come back with something almost indifferent to what one might expect. Thankfully Beverley's style and talent continue to impress.
The album brings back many fond memories and it is pleasing to know that some things can still be counted on. I have been playing this album daily and would have to say that it is possibly one of the best albums I have acquired in a number of years. If you are a die hard fan then I don't need to sell the merits of this album to you as it is a must have album.
To the uninitiated I would simply encourage you to listen to the previews here as that should be enough to convince you to purchase it, it is truly an album for all seasons.
Beverley is performing in Stockton (Cleveland)later this month and I can't wait to hear her in person, as I have heard good reviews. If you are there you will recognise me as the 'one with the patch'?

Even though Beverley's last album to be released before this album "Close to Home" was 10 years previous, don't let that make you cautious about how she might perform now, you have no worries, the lady still has class and sings and writes as good as she always has. If you are already a Beverley Craven music lover you will notice just a slight difference in her voice but its not a bad thing just a little different, well that's just my take on it, maybe you will think there is no difference. I rate this album as good as her debut album and the "Love Scenes" album which I both have and I found this album "Close to Home" to be very thoughtful and expertly performed and I really love the lyrics to her songs, they are so refreshingly honest in the way she sings them. I liked all the songs on this album but I had a few favorites like "Mr. Know-it-All" and "Fun,Fun,Fun" and others too but these two really grabbed my attention. This is the type of album that needs at least a couple of listens to appreciate its true quality, I appreciated it more when I listened to it the second time and hopefully some day I will get to see Beverley in concert, hope she comes to Ireland some time. If you are a fan of hers I'd say this can't be done without in your collection of her music, this is a great comeback album and you can't go wrong if you buy it, its simply great music, thanks for returning Beverley, you were missed.
