We have three slings for our 3 month old baby and the Close carrier is by far the best for being out and about.
(1) Because the cloth distributes the weight across the shoulders, you don't end sore as when using a carrier like BabyBjorn/Cybex.
(2) Our baby doesn't settle well to sleep, however, he obviously feels very comfortable in this one. I have taken him to lectures and meetings in this sling and he is generally quite and alert, when awake.
(3) it's a nice looking sling that can be worn even in more dressed up situations.
(4) Lifting the baby in and out is so much easier than BabyBjorn/Cybex type slings.
On the negative,
(1) it takes a while to get used to setting the sling up- it's pleated (4 fold) and you have to experiment with it to make sure it's right unless you want to repleat every time (which we don't). Particularly, getting the head support right for newborns can be a bit tricky. The DVD is of some use, however, the sling is all set up nicely before use.
(2) Due to the (necessary) excess material, it hangs quite far down the shins, which can be a bit annoying.

If I lost this sling tomorrow, I would order another one immediately, from day one it really soothed our quite fussy/colicky baby, and we are still using it at age 7 months, both out and about and also to settle him if he's upset/tired.
It offers all the versatility of a wrap sling, but is really easy to use and is pretty foolproof. The ring system is really simple, and takes seconds to put on and get your baby into. You can position the baby in a foetal position, so great for newborns, or upright facing in (again good for sleep, our 7 month old still naps in it if we are out), or facing out when a bit older. Our baby loves being out and about in it, and its also great for getting things done around the house if he doesn't want to be put down.
It comes in two parts, the main sling and an extra wrap, I rarely use the extra wrap, but just tie the tails of the sling around the front to make it secure.
It offers all the versatility of a wrap sling, but is really easy to use and is pretty foolproof. The ring system is really simple, and takes seconds to put on and get your baby into.
