5.0 out of 5 stars A very good read 11 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Have just finished reading CLOSE ENOUGH TO KILL and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The two main characters - Captain Jim Norton and Sheriff Bernie Granger make a good team in trying to solve the abductions and murders of young women, some of which go back several years. The story is good and all the characters are believable. There are enough suspects in there to keep you guessing who is responsible, and even when you think you know the answers, you still wonder if you have gotten it right.
Have just downloaded AMNESIA by Beverly Barton and will be looking for more, as I am sure this will be just as good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Romance and thriller - a bit of both 16 Aug 2011
By WilsonD
Format:Kindle Edition
A number of other reviewers have commented that this book is more romance than thriller. There is an element of truth in this, inasmuch as there is a strong romance element. But there is also a running undercurrent of suspense that makes it a tense thriller and it is wrong to judge the book harshly because it does not fit neatly into one particular slot or genre. I read this book in response to a recommendation after reading David Kessler's Mercy and I found it to be exciting and interesting in its own right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down 23 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
This is the first Beverly Barton book I have read-I had never heard of her but someone I knew was reading it and I thought it sounded good so I gave it a go. I looked on Beverly Barton's website and saw that she writes books under the 'Silhouette' label-I thought 'oh no' because I thought these were similar to Mills and Boon. Luckily this didn't put me off because I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of her writing and I will definitely read another of her books. I have read all Richard Montanari's books and I would put it on a par with those-it's that good. The few days I was reading this book it kept me thinking who the suspects could be and it seemed obvious at one moment it was a certain person-next minute it couldn't be him then another red herring put me on yet another track, it really did keep me guessing. There is also a bit of a love story in the book and this provides a good balance to the gory scenes. I think this book was an excellent read and I enjoyed it immensely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Close enough 17 Aug 2011

I liked this book. I was guessing who the killer was until the end although I had an idea sometime in the middle of the book but I wasn't sure. There was a little romantic touch as well which I liked. All together it's a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars close enough to kill 10 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
I have never hard of Beverly Barton before, i come across her book in the book shop and i started to read the first pape and i was hocked so i bought it, and i've not been able to put it down. I liked the fact that there was a bit of a love story in there but the best was all the red herrings and think that you know who the kiler was and then it changed all over again and you was back to square one which i love that about the book because it kept you guessing. I will most diffenly buy another of her books the only think that i find most hard is that i never no which one is the first book and which is the second
This is a must buy .

1.0 out of 5 stars Thriller or Mills & Boone? 19 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
What a very disappointing book. Ms. Barton seemed more intent on romance than a plot. What plot there was, and very thin it was too, was dribbled throughout what I can only describe as 'Mills & Boone' mush. The 'suspects' were obvious from the moment they were introduced and I would say the whole 'thriller' content couldn't have taken up more than a dozen pages. I found myself dismissing page after page of sloppy romance in a vain effort to find a worthwhile read. i did persevere to the end, but couldn't wait to finish it. Her previous book, 'Amnesia' was of the same ilk. unfortunately I purchased both as a 'job lot', so was stuck with them!

4.0 out of 5 stars A little predictable
A good read and at times quite tense. Unfortunately I guessed the killer very early on, in fact as soon as they came into the story. Maybe I read too many thrillers. Read more
