Product Description

CLONEX is a high performance rooting compound suitable for the propagation of many softwood and semi-hardwood plant species. It is a tenacious gel which will remain in contact around the stem, sealing the cut tissue and supplying the hormones needed to promote root cell development, and vitamins to protect the delicate new root tissue. CLONEX is better because:It seals cut tissue instantly, eliminating the risk of infection or embolism. It contains rooting hormone at 3000 parts per million, the full strength required for explosive root development. CLONEX has a full spectrum of mineral nutrients and trace elements to nourish the young roots, plus anti-microbial agents to protect against fungal contamination. It is a gel - far safer than liquids or powders because it cannot splash or blow about. Unlike liquids and powders, CLONEX will remain in contact with the stem right through the rooting period. CLONEX can be used with any rooting medium. Clonex is suitable for use with a wide range of growing media including coarse sand, perlite, vermiculite, rockwool, and proprietary mixes recommended for cuttings. Place your chosen medium in a clean plastic seed tray and moisten thoroughly. Allow adequate drainage to avoid water logging.

Does what it says on the tin, just have to follow the enclosed instructions very carefully. I've had a couple of failures at first but I think that was my mistake(too much water and moisture ).
Two vital points:
1)use it IMMEDIATELY after you acquire your cutting.
2)Cuttings need humidity to start rooting but too much water, warmth and stagnant air will lead to rot.

Of course don't expect this to be a miracle product. But it does make a difference in that roots appear more vigorous and quite faster than by not using it.
Have fun and good luck in your gardening ventures!

When taking cuttings in the past, I had been shown how to use rooting powder and used the same brand for a number of years and only switched when the original product was unavailable. Success rates were around 50-60% consistently over a long period.

Recently when asking a gardener for advice as the rooting product I last used could not be found, he suggested I try this as he had been obtaining a close to 100% success rate and had seen just the occasional failure.

This product is in the form of a gel which is quite thick. It therefore sticks to the plant stem or leaf stalk and does not shake off or become dislodged quite so readily as will powder. It is likely that more of the product will remain in place when planting in a tray or pot.

I have been using this with a home-made compost comprising a mixture of coir fibre, commercially produced garden compost and vermiculite in a fixed proportion and have so far seen about 90% success. I don't have a greenhouse and have been depending on the humid high temperatures of summer 2013 to assist.

POSTSCRIPT @ 10-2013

A few weeks ago, I was offered a few offcuts from an evergreen Ceanothus (variety unknown as it was planted by a previous occupier of the property) which was being trimmed back. I was told by someone far more experienced than I that they NEVER rooted from cuttings and that there were only one or two methods that would sometimes work, although I could use neither as I did not have the parent bush. I was able to obtain three good cuttings and another which was rather immature and weedy. Of the four, after about 6-8 weeks two of the better ones had rooted - one only just and the other has produced a sizeable root system. It even managed to produce a flower bud which was picked out. This was far better than I was told was possible.

revived a cut down palm tree with this: someone cut down and threw away a palm tree on to the street, we picked it up, smudged the cut end in Clonex, planted into a very firm plant support to avoid any movement and now 6 months later we've got a nice growing beautiful and healthy established palm tree.

Used before, my personal preference to powder, and one of the best makes.

I feel like I am working in a laboratory whenever I use this product. I used it with my dianthus and dahlia cuttings and it worked. I have very good young plants now.

I have been having problems with cactus offset rooting in compost and I decided to use this product. I used a spatula to shave a piece off the small plant before use of the product. I am watching to see whether my efforts are successful
