Synopsis

This work is Stanley Kubrick's authorized screenplay of "A Clockwork Orange." Kubrick never allowed stills photographers on his sets, so this work is illustrated with over 800 frames selected by Kubrick. The complete dialogue of the film runs throughout the book enabling the film to be "read" against the frames.

From the Publisher

A Clockwork Orange
This unique illustrated screenplay contains 800 still images from A Clockwork Orange selected by Stanley Kubrick when the film was first released in 1972 . As Kubrick comments in his introduction "I have always wondered if there might be a more meaningful way to present a book about a film. To make, as it were, a complete, graphic representation of the film, cut buy cut, with the dialogue printed in the proper place in relation to the cuts, so that within the limits of still-photographs and words, an accurate ( and I hope interesting) record of a film might be available to any one who had a bit more curiosity than just knowing what happened in the last reel. This book represents that attempt." Stanley Kubrick May 22nd 1972 Unavailable for nearly 30 years in the US and never before available in the UK. A unique book, over 800 frame grabs from the film, selected by Kubrick himself as he rarely allowed a stills photographer on set. Very few books on this landmark film are available and this screenplay has been produced in association with the Kubrick Estate and Warner Bros. Working from the original, a book published in the US, each image has been completely digitally re-mastered to enable better, sharper images. With many pages containing as many as four stills per page the book has been printed on high grade smooth art paper to ensure the best reproduction. An essential publication for media studies courses, enabling the film to be 'read' for the first time

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Classic, 25 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: A Clockwork Orange: Film Screenplay (Paperback)
Since the film's re-release last year, there has been a mini-backlash against A Clockwork Orange; the years of restrictions created an aura about the film and some people were inevitably disappointed when they discovered it was "just" a film.

But no Kubrick film is ever "just" anything. For my money, he was one of the great masters of cinema. A Clockwork Orange is lightyears ahead of almost every other film; unlike modern Hollywood films it doesn't spoonfeed you and that's maybe why the MTV generation stare at it with blank faces.

This book is esentially the screenplay, but it isn't as simple as that. Kubrick illustrated the book with photographs, reconstructing the film on paper. This means we can see the anatomy of the film laid out before us. It means that we can analyse the film in detail. This book is essential for any students of film and for any fans of Kubrick.

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading, 5 Mar 2011
This review is from: A Clockwork Orange: Film Screenplay (Paperback)
This is not set out in the conventional screenplay form. Scene setup and action is mostly missed out in this badly thought out book. If you're hoping to use this script for some kind of assignment, like I was, it is useless because it is not the proper script. To summarise - only buy this if you want to read for fun. Still, a good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars intresting, 6 Sep 2000
This review is from: A Clockwork Orange: Film Screenplay (Paperback)
this is a very good book, the trouble is there is not action at the start. To improve this book there should be more at the start and a bit of a plot. i miss the start of it.
