Product Description

..".the value of this resource extends far beyond undergraduate teaching. Qualified practitioners, especially new graduates, would find the book a useful clinical practice reference manual. Postgraduate teachers and vocational trainers could benefit from the case study approach when preparinf for tutorials. When your first patient comes in with 'fractured incisors' and the next is a pain in the neck' this book might just be the place to which you should turn." "Readers' Panel member," Dental Update, June 2004

5.0 out of 5 stars Something new every chapter 29 July 2009
This book contains 56 cases which are structured in a similar way to a viva or OSCE patient station, with the writer asking questions around the subject, with the model answers underneath, with discussion throughout.

Sample case structure:
Examination- includes how to orally present clinical findings
Differential diagnosis - with justifications
Diagnosis which you have excluded -why
Investigations- what you do, how you do them, why are you doing them, what do you see in, for example histo slide
Diagnosis -why, causes, treatment/management
Discussion/questions asked by patients

Included in all this are rationale for choice of radiographs, choice of temporary material and much more, all laid out in full colour, easy to read tables.

The greatest feature of this book is the explanations used are simple and almost conversational in style. The author encourage you to think for yourself what is going on with the patient, and therefore the rational management of the case. Occasionally you may find the treatment chosen by the authors, or statements in the book may be different from what is normal at your school, even in these cases there is enough information in the books to discuss these differences with your tutors armed with sufficient knowledge to make the most of their experience, and indeed make up your own mind.

I can't recommend this book strongly enough, nor can all of my friends at dental school

A 4th year dental student.

The principle of learning is closely linked to preparation for examinations. This book allows you to develop deeper knowledge and understanding, combining the necessity of passsing examinations with longer term needs.
I feel this book is an essential tool for finals, providing a step by step guidence through a range of dental scenarios of varying complexity.
Armed with information and a familiar format, this is a valuable investment for any dental student.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool book 30 July 2008
Really good book for guidance in how to manage typical cases which may come through the door. Gives a walk through on procedure that you may need to carry out with good explanation.

More useful for students who are in clinics.

Easy to read with text broken up with quality pictures. I would highly recommend this book.
