Book Description

10 Dec 2004 1405122765 978-1405122764
Most patients suffering from pancreatic diseases are managed by general internists, gastroenterologists and/or surgeons in non–specialized centers. Basic and clinical research in pancreatology is continuously leading to changes in the management of pancreatic diseases, but these advances are applied to the clinical practice almost exclusively in specialized centers by specialized groups. The books and journals currently available are directed at pancreatologists and the information does not reach most general clinicians and surgeons who treat patients suffering from pancreatic diseases. The aim of this book is to provide practising gastroenterologists and surgeons with clear information regarding the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic diseases.

Review

"What makes this such an interesting book? First and foremost, the editor assembled an all–star, international cast of clinical and basic science pancreatologists. Second, that chapters, all 60 of them, are only as long as they need to be. Some are very short (3–4 pages); only a few are long. Third, for a text covering such a large landscape, there is remarkably little overlap between chapters. Fourth, considerable thought and effort has been given to the layout of each chapter, with ample tables and figures to guide the non–expert reader. Fifth, despite the difficulty of keeping a textbook "fresh" when the data change so quickly, this one is remarkably current... There are so many excellent chapters in this book it is impossible to identify them all... In summary, this is a well–designed and executed textbook that has something for everyone in the field of pancreatology. It deserves to do well." Gastroenterology 2005; 129:1356–1357

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book for Clinicians 5 Sep 2005

Format:Hardcover
It is not easy to find a book like this providing with such clear information for clinicians. The pancreas was a hidden organ for many family doctors, internists, gastroenterologists and surgeons before this book was available. It is with no doubt a highly recommendable book.
