Book Description

1 Mar 2005 0781752159 978-0781752152 4th Revised edition
This introduction to epidemiology helps medical, nursing, and pharmacy students develop a system to observe and assess outcomes in similar patient types, and then apply this knowledge of outcomes to improve future patient care. The Fourth Edition has been redesigned to enhance understanding with new illustrations, pedagogical tools, examples, and summary boxes. According to a faculty member at the University of North Carolina, "This is one of the few books truly written for students of clinical epidemiology...I've used it in the past and would do so in the future. The book is comprehensive and takes a practical approach to explaining important topics."

4.0 out of 5 stars clinical epidemiology, the essentials 24 Jan 2011
By Daisy
Format:Paperback
I decided to purchase this book as it was included on my reading list for Masters in Public Health, with, I should add, several other texts. Recommended purchases were a mixed bag but I would defiantly say this was a good buy. Although quite comprehensive it was also basic enough to be understood by a beginner and covered a lot of the exam content. Almost all concepts were accompanied by practical examples to enhance understanding. At times it really was the text that shed light on subjects that were difficult to grasp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clinical Epidemiology: The Essentials 3 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
If you want to know about clinical epidemiology, this book is simplistically brilliant! Fantastic examples of clinical applications make it easy to understand published papers in non-epidemiology journals. Having read the book from cover to cover and trying the Q&As, I would suggest some peer-reviewers might benefit from having a copy!Clinical Epidemiology: The Essentials

By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Clinical Epidemiology has become a core element in the understanding and treatment of human illness. Traditional practice encourages the health care student to believe that knowing enough anatomy & physiology will somehow optimise health care outcomes. This book not only challenges that view but it also arms the reader with the knowledge and applicable skills to interpret research and also to ensure that any work you carry out is robust and in keeping with EBM principles. A highly recommended text and great VFM. A must for the faculty shelf!

5.0 out of 5 stars A excelent book to the beginner 25 Oct 1997
By pompilio@netserv.com.br - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Clinical Epidemiology has been considered the new 'Basic Science' to medical students. This book offers a excelent approach to main problems found by beginners in this vast field of knowledge like how to deal with Statistics and with the huge number of papers published. With a easy language this book is good option to get started in this branch of Medicine now called the 'Science of the Art'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential textbook for health care professionals! 28 Jan 2003
By "owenmoore2" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Clinical Epidemiology has become a core element in the understanding and treatment of human illness. Defined as a method of generating valid conclusions from clinical observations, clinical epidemiology arms health practitioners with skills essential for modern health care. As a Physical Therapist (PT) I am often asked to render a diagnosis based on clinical hypotheses with "soft" measurements like pain, distress and function loss; how can I ensure that my diagnosis is correct? Traditional practice encourages the health care student to believe that knowing enough anatomy & physiology will somehow optimise health care outcomes. This book not only challenges that view but it also arms the reader with the knowledge and applicable skills to interpret research and also to ensure that any work you carry out is robust and in keeping with EBM principles. A highly recommended text and great value for money. A must for lecturers, student PT's and anyone who wonders how they can improve their critical analysis of health care practice. Don't treat patients without a copy on your shelf (assuming of course you read it...osmosis is NOT a recognised learning tool).

5.0 out of 5 stars clinical epidemiology 'The Essentials' 4th edition by Fletcher 24 Feb 2012
By Bon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The 'Essentials' 4th edition is an excellent book. This is my first class in epidemiology and am finding the examples in the book very useful. There is a alot of new vocabulary and they have all been bolded in the book for easy reading. The answers to the questions are in the back of the book which is nice.
