Marshall has a very simple way of explaining very complex issues and a style of writing which will not bore even the most un-inspired reader.

The book covers all of the major topics within clinical chemistry with 'real life' examples and questions so that you can relate the text to clinical situations.

Being a biochemist myself i find myself referring to this book more than any other i know of.

Doing a MSc Biomedical Science 8 years after finishing BSc and admittedly, my theoretical knowledge had started to rust and fade.

The discussions go back to the basics so this can be used for undergrad studies. The progression from basics to more detailed discussion was well put. The writting is simple and very informative, yet not too detailed to make you miss the point. It has lived up to the title of being "clinical" by including case studies which are helpful to associated the theory to the cases.

The diagrams / flow charts on the different pathways and feedback mechanisms was a great guide to graphiclly organise all the information.

Since this is a clinical approach, discussions at molecular level is not in depth. There are diagrams and discussions but if molecular is what you want specifically; you should look else where. Also, there are no technical discussions on laboratory methods employed in the clinical laboratory.

For layout, the text size is decent and there are enough white spaces. Tables and diagrams (coloured) are good breaks from the text and are helpful summaries.

I have a more detailed reference book compared to this but for quick answers, this proves more handy. A good investment.

Just what I needed! 24 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I'd go as far as saying that this textbook is compulsory in any Clinical Biochemistry module. I'm a second year Biomedical Science student, and would not have got through the module without it.

Wholeheartedly recommended.
