Product Description

MRI has become the preferred noninvasive imaging modality for the heart and great vessels. The substantial technological progress achieved in recent years has provided the user with state-of-the-art MRI systems, but their optimal use can be limited by restricted awareness of the potential patient benefit and the necessity for teaching. This extensively illustrated volume, together with the accompanying CD-ROM, has been specifically compiled to meet these needs. i am a cardiologist spending most of my time with echocardiography. knowing the technical difficulties with echocardiography like poor windows, poor body habitus etc, i often have to advise the referring physicians and cardiologists on how they should proceed with the case if the echocardiography was inconclusive. also cmr is being increasingly advocated as a gold standard for detection of several cardiac conditions like pericardial disease, myocardial tumors, congenital heart diseases like pulmonary vein obstruction and many others and aortic arch anomalies. thus to complement my echocardiography expertise i decided to buy this book on clinical cmr and see for myself where and when i should go for mri in cardiac cases. i was quite astonished at the depth of additional data which can be acquired with cmr. one instance is myocarditis where a young patient may come with chest discomfort , but echo is normal. also most cases of myocarditis are subclinical. although echo can be normal, cmr can show patchy areas of enhancement typical of myocarditis. many such young people often have been dismissed as cases having muscular pain or worse as psychosomatic. finally, the pictures in the book have an amazing clarity similar to echocardiography but rather superior. i think cmr is increasing taking centre stage and it will be prudent on part of cardiologists to familiarise themselves with cmr including some terminology so that they could communicate better with their colleagues in the radiology dept.as this book is mainly clinical,i think it is godsend for me and certainly many others in this field.
