This is an extension of the very good series of pictorial books by Roger Phillips and covers the use of climbers. Each climber is given a small vignette and site for planting, soil type, and hardiness. I was expecting the full work which is a large edition rather than this small and greatly reduced content "Chooser" book which somewhat clouds my judgment on the book. It's OK, but there isn't enough detail or enough choice in the numbers and types of climbers and so if given a choice I would go for the full volume, rather than this very abrridged version if you are into serious gardening. That said, "Ornamental Shrubs, Climbers and Bamboos" by Graham Stuart Thomas or the Hillier Manual of Trees and Shrubs would be a better book to get if "serious" is what you are after.
