I am not a techie and all I wanted was a simple way to get my old family videos, which had been created from the original film movie camera, onto dvds.
Thank goodness that I persevered and did not get put off by some of the reviews I read about all the problems that could be expected if I tried to do this with my iMac. After reading the two reviews above I decided to bite the bullet and spend £36 on the chance that somebody had now made the job easy. It is not often that I am so delighted with a purchase. This is the first time that I have done more then tick the stars in an amazon review but I felt that I owed the suppliers of this kit some praise.

The order was delivered in less than 2days after placing the order on amazon. When the installation disc was rejected by my computer I got concerned but an email address in the box was given to offer help. Within 4 hours, and probably less as I had left the house to go to the shops, I had a reply which gave me links to download the necessary software from the company web site and some useful hints with post processing using the apple iMovie application (and subsequently iDVD).
This is what I call first class service.

I have now created my first transferred DVD (only 3mins as a trial) and everything worked perfectly. 'It did what it said on the tin/box'.
If I can do it, I am sure nearly everyone else will be able to do it. All I need now is about two months free to make all the DVDs.

We have decided that it was time to save our old VHS tapes by transfering them into digital format. After reading mixed (very mixed!) reviews about many video capture devices, I was unsure what to buy for VHS-to-DVD transfer. I'm happy to say that this device works for us!
Here are some notes for Mac people who, like us, are not experts in video production, but would like to digitise their videos to save them from extinction:
- even though the software is easy and intuitive, I would still say you'd better read a little bit about video formats, compression, what settings to choose for the software and all that business: ReadMe file attached to the software is good for this (and yes, I know it's boring to read instructions);
- if you have a VCR with Scart-only output you'll have to buy a special connector;
- if you'd like to burn the digitised video onto a DVD so that you could watch it on a regular DVD player, you'll need a special program for that. We have tried putting the digitised videos in MPEG4 format onto a DVD, but our DVD player refused to play it (though it should have, according to it's manual). We also tried using iGrabber Exporter software, but the result was the same. It might have been our DVD player's fault, but who knows; as I said, we are not experts. Then we used iDVD and it worked perfectly, we can now watch our old videos on our DVD player and the quality is not at all worse, it might be even slightly better. For the owners of older Macs: please, consider if your computer is capable. We have a new iMac, so it worked fine; I am not sure that our previous model would have managed, and it didn't have iDVD.

This was bought for our company after receiving a load of old VHS tapes (27 to be exact) that needed capturing for a client. As we use Mac computers for editing we had to search high and low for a VHS capturing device that worked with Mac, and finally came across this. So to begin, it works perfectly on Mac with the software included (and although not using it on PCmI'm sure it works fine also), it also gives you the freedom to capture the footage to whatever format you require and at whatever size and resolution is needed - with a good number of presets and a customise option for specific requirements.

Would also like to say, although the product is marketed as DVD/VCD capturing device, this could be used for capturing from ANY device that has composite or s-video lead outs, you simply press 'play' on whatever device you have connected and press 'record' on your computer and it captures the footage real-time.

And finally a quick mention of the seller is definitely in order, we ordered the product on Monday morning and it came Tuesday, the product didn't seem to work when we first used it, however after a quick email to ClimaxDigital they replied within 20 minutes with an exact response, sending us an update for the software and the product worked perfectly.

So all-in-all great product from a great seller.
