Product Description

Review

'The Up in Smoke coalition was a remarkable coming-together of environment and development agencies; this book presents their findings, a powerful picture of a world in which climate change is becoming an ever more dangerous reality - and the people least responsible are suffering most from the consequences. But it also provides inspiring stories that show that human ingenuity and endeavour can still point ways to a better future for all this Earth's inhabitants.'
--Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International

Format: Paperback
A thoroughly enjoyable read. Meticulously researched and referenced, this book covers the impact of climate change on human development. It pulls no punches in describing the devastation likely to result from current trends, but also presents lots of examples of adaptation to climate change, which give grounds for optimism. The stories from around the world - remodelling lakes in the foothills of Mount Everest, improving soil quality in Zambia, and training local farming experts in Peru in ancient and modern methods - are fascinating and inspiring.
