When studying a book I always head straight to amazon to get the York Notes, however could only find this for Paradise Lost, (York notes didn't do one on books 9 and 10 which is what I needed). One problem with this is that it's very vague when what you really need is detailed language analysis and Milton's techniques. Because these notes are on all of the PL books, I only ended up using around 5 or 6 of the pages which seems a waste. I can imagine that for an overview of the entire poem this would do fine but it's got nothing on York Notes and I found that my own notes from class were more detailed than this anyway. Overall, it was useful for the odd overview and character description but not fantastic :/

This proved extremely useful to me when analysing Milton's 'Paradise Lost' as it provided summaries and commentaries for each Book and helped me to understand the story. Everything is concise and it is perfect if you are studying the entirety of 'Paradise Lost' rather than just a few Books. The only problem is that it does not go into huge amounts of detail as much as you would like as it is covering the whole story rather than just one of two Books I thought that was fair enough otherwise it would be too long! If you are studying 'Paradise Lost' or just reading it, I would strongly recommend this book to you.

Excellent Resource 26 Sept. 2007

This is an excellent resource for anyone planning to read Milton's Paradise Lost or for those who are curious about the ideas in the text but who do not have the patience to read the archaic style of poetry.

Furthurmore, it was perfect for me who just wanted to know what all the Milton refrences were about in the TV series "Fallen."

What a great time saver and helpful study and comprehension tool!
I am not a student, but Cliffs Notes is a great way to review a book before sitting down and reading it. It really aids in comprehension.
Deliver time was very good also.
Paradise Lost Audio Cliffs Notes 28 Dec. 2013

I think people should always read a book and not just the Cliffs Notes...BUT, Paradise Lost is such a challenging read that Cliffs Notes are a must! And I have to confess that I didn't even read them, I listened to them during my commute to work. I wasn't sure that I could stand listening to something like Cliffs Notes for an hour, but it was really entertaining and I feel I now have a very solid grasp of the material--something it would've taken me way longer to accomplish with Milton's writing style if I had tried to slog through the book. I still want to read the original someday, but for now I can benefit from a familiarity with Paradise Lost whenever I read one of the seemingly countless books it influenced.

This is a classic. I wanted the Cliff's Notes to help my students. It's impossible to define it in modern literary canon words.
