THE HIT LIST is the first video to chronicle the rise of Cliff from a young and inexperienced singer to the accomplished performer the world has come to know and love. Narrated by Cliff, himself, if takes the viewer through a tour of his early days of black and white television performances to the polished virtuoso performances we have become so accustomed to in modern times.
The film features many of his popular hits in their original form and with nostalgic footage takes the viewer back to a time when digital enhancement had not been developed and the artist had to rely on his own merits a vocalist. Whether a long standing devotee or a new young fan the listener cannot fail to notice the changes that have taken place as Cliff as matured.
Starting from his earliest days with hits like "Move it" and " Lucky Lips" the film takes us through to the early 90`s with his successful bid for a Christmas No 1 with " Mistletoe and Wine". Clips from Cliff`s film days demonstrate the change in style and vocalisation as the maestro has aged. "The Young Ones" and "Batchelor Boy" were noticeably different in the film soundtracks to their modern day versions. Arguably, the original versions still remain the best versions in the writer's opinion.
The video is well presented and significantly enhanced with each section being presented and narrated by Cliff in his own inimitable style. His presence gives one the feeling of his genuine pleasure in satisfying his fans throughout his career. He traces his own development through the years with his usual flair and also with a sense of humour and relaxed attitude we have all come to love and know.
Cliff talks us through many of the developments in both his career and the technology and also some of the people who played significant parts in his history. The motion picture scenes take us on a trip from dull old Britain to the sunny climes of Greece and Cliff tells and shows parts of the areas where the films came to life.
Taking all aspects of the video into account this one is a must for any Cliff Connoisseur.
