Works Like a Dream 4 Feb 2009
By RBH
I bought this direct from Storage Corp's very helpful local sales manager before it was generally available. It comes in a box no bigger than the cable, with a tiny set of instructions (there are more available on-line). Plugged it in as instructed, and it worked like a dream. I have 1TB of attached storage with thousands of picture and music files. The software took 6 hours to work through it all and back it up to 47GB on a USB drive. Since then, incremental backups have taken just a few minutes. The data is stored in an uncompacted format. Restoring files is straightforward too. (Having only had it a few days I haven't had time to check whether the software has versioning, or whether it automatically deletes backups of deleted files.) Highly recommended.

If you have not come across clickfree products before, they basically have found a niche in the market for a quickback up solution without having to use backup software and placed it on the hardware, where a lot of non-techies like myself can not be bothered mirroring drives, doing daily backups, streaming across wireless networks etc, and find it all rather confusing

The two main products they have are either external harddrive's ranging form 80 pounds upwards. And now have just released this cable. I have to say thanks to amazon for just delivering it, pre-ordered ages ago wasnt expecting it till next month.

Pros: Plug in pc connect to ext usb hard drive, countdown away it goes
Can change what files you want it to search for
easy windows to view files/restore etc

Niggles; Can be very slow first time of use depends on data you have
doesnt backup software, operating system
You will need the cable to view files again and do futher backups, you can see your files on you external hard drive as normal using windows explorer etc however its much better browsing your files by plugging in the dongle again and using its software.

Only had a few plays with it so far, if you want to backup email files, photos, music, video. Just plug it in and away it goes. As the softwares on the cable dongle, it does it all for you. Its just what I have been after plug and play. I have windows vista works fine. Have not tryed it on any pre 2.0 external usb hard drives

The easy way to back up all those important files. No software to install plug the dongle in wait for the splash screen plug your external hard drive in to the dongle and you are good to go.
Depending on the amount of files you have on your PC will dictate how long the first back up will take, subsequent backups if performed regularly will only take a couple of minutes if that. Having used the NERO Backup utility for years I can safely say it is no slower to use and is much easier to use
The preinstalled software does cover most file types but not all. For instance it does not initially back up .flv (flash video files) but in the custom settings you can add file types easily enough
