Looks at the skills and talents that dogs have utilised over thousands of years to become the most successful domestic animal of all - a master survivor! --Dogs Today

Product Description

The dog is undeniably the most successful domestic animal of all time. He shares his life with ours, has integrated into our society, and won the hearts and minds of millions of us. We call ourselves dog lovers because we do sincerely love them: they are fully-fledged members of our family, and we have elevated them to positions of authority in the human world. Assistance dogs, protection dogs, detection dogs, companion dogs ... they all enhance our lives immeasurably. In this book we will examine a whole raft of canine skills and talents, and try to piece together how and why the dog has enjoyed such immense success as a domesticated animal. We will look at the dog as a problem solver, conflict resolver, and health asset. As a decision maker and hero. And as a loyal and trusted friend. Clever Dog! is a compendium of life lessons we can learn from our dogs, based on a combination of what we know about them and indeed what we think we might know about them. He's earned his epithet 'Man's best friend:' in this book, our aim is to examine how he did it and how we might emulate his talents in order to enjoy the same fortune and fulfillment in our lives. Be happy and successful: learn from the best! Features: * Interesting take on self development/improvement lessons * Interesting facts and data on how the human/canine relationship evolved * Amazing examples of how dogs have succeeded and achieved * Practical insights into how humans can use the dog as a life example * Incredible stories of canine bravery, endurance and talent * Understanding leadership from the world's most famous pack animal * Learn how to settle conflicts without 'drawing blood' * Understand how to develop and enhance relationships, learning from the best * Climb the career ladder by following the winning strategy of the dog * How to embrace and cherish independence without being a 'loner'.

This is a great little book, written with insight and humour which I heartily recommend to any dog owner or anyone thinking about becoming one.
The history of dogs, their intelligence rating and various anecdotes combine to inform and amuse. There are many hints and tips on training and understanding one's dog.
I found the print style a little tiring to read, but that is the fault of my ageing eyes not the book's!

Clever Dog Life Lessons Gret Book!! 10 stars 24 Jan 2012

Cleaver is not the word I use Smart. I have a rescue 5 year old white German Shepard. We have had him a year and yes he is spoiled rotten He eats like a king and enjoys our company when he sleeps in side our home. He is very smart and learn our deficiencies and our strength. He has help me health wise and I can always count on him except if a Squirrel or cat catches his eye. No problem that dogie life and I enjoy whispering in his ear and rubbing his belly. He even get a royal bath for my wife Sharon and I and a wipe down like a classic car.

But let me tell you if he wants something he lets a roar out that can shake a house.
I read the book on my kindle. Everything is true. German Shepard are very smart and loyal K9s. Our German Shepherd was named Whitey and I did not change it . he was in rescue all of one hour . We do not know his passed history and this is the first K9 I have had in 20 years. He has taught me some lessons he is very tame love kids and adults and if he does not get affection form you he rubs up against you to remind you the same as people do or good salesman. He is a salesman he sold me and because of our bond we both have a better life . he looks forward to his walk every morning rain or shine. I get exercise and he does his business. Their is a K9 community a loyal bond of people who own other dogs and travel the same route on our daily constitutional walk morning and evening. Some know my Shepard's name but not me . This book is excellent and funny I highly recommend it. If you just getting back to dogie world you need this book.
