A little disappointed, however, in the short episodes which rob the show of depth. It's a half-hour show, and allowing for adverts when broadcast on TV, that makes each episode about 23 minutes long. This leaves some of the plots a bit lacking in substance, little is ever properly explained, and it doesn't really give the viewer enough time to get to know and identify with the characters. There is also a sense that the series isn't really sure what age-group it is aimed at.
One clear advantage of the absence of a continuing plotline is that, unlike many similar series, it doesn't end on a cliffhanger. All too often this happens, some accountant in a grey suit cancels the show, and the fans are left wondering what happened next...
Cleopatra herself looks, dresses and (sometimes) acts a little too much like Gigi Edgley's Chianna in Farscape. No disrespect to Jennifer Sky, who plays the part very well, it's just that if each episode had a little more depth, she could have developed Cleo into a much more 'rounded' character in her own right. Chianna's great, but she doesn't need a clone.
The lack of recognition this series receives puts it in the 'bargain basement', so if you're into futuristic 'saving the Earth' fantasy series, you're not losing much in giving Cleopatra 2525 a try. Despite it's shortcomings, it is worth watching.
