In the third of the Jack Ryan films, Harrison Ford reprises the role of Ryan, portraying the many facets of the character with consummate ease. He's moved onwards and upwards since the events of `Patriot Games', now a high ranking member of the CIA, giving briefings to the President.

The murder of a friend of the President leads to a link with a Columbian drugs cartel. A chain of events is set in motion to avenge the murder, and Ryan is caught in the middle, in the role of innocent patsy. He must uncover the truth and act to not only save his own career, but to save the lives of some patriots and to expose sickening corruption in the heart of Government.

With a strong central performance from Ford, and Willem Dafoe as the straight dealing Clarke, lots of big action set pieces and a well directed and tense search for the truth, this is an entertaining 2 hours and a highly recommended film.

This edition presents the film in its proper widescreen, with a really good 5.1 surround sound. There is also a DTS soundtrack, which sounds really good. There is a decent set of extras, all in all this is a package well worth getting.

The film itself is great - the type of film that rarely gets made any more, with a steady pace, a sprinkling of action, and some good characters.

The video transfer is a bit problematic. Generally it's acceptable and fairly good quality. However I was aware before purchasing that there'd be some DNR done on this film. It's true. At some points faces go slightly 'waxy', meaning stubble and other fine facial details disappear. It's not excessive but it's worth bearing in mind. The sound is very strong.

There are some extras, including a 'making of' with some discussion of novel elements to the film for the time - such as the inclusion of computer hacking, which apparently hadn't really be done in film up to this point.

All in all, an acceptable Blu-ray release so long as you go in knowing there's been a bit of fiddling with the image.

A great movie which I saw many years ago and I now have it in BluRay - with great vision and surround sound. Harrison Ford is a great actor and many of his movies are tops - I don't recall seeing him in a 'bad' movie !!
I purchased this movie via amazon.co.uk

This is one of my favourite Harrison Ford films. It has plenty of action and lots of political intrigue. The set pieces are well done. Particularly good is the casting of the White House flunkies, none of which you would trust an inch!

The blu-Ray presentation is much better than any previous DVD release. It's not eye-poppingly sharp compared with modern releases but both picture and sound are good for a movie this old.

After a killing of a complete family on a private yacht as an act of revenge ordered by a Columbian drug-lord, the C.I.A are
on full alert.
'When C.I.A deputy director 'Admiral James Greer' (James Earl Jones) becomes seriously ill, 'Jack Ryan' (Harrison Ford)
takes charge of the investigation which has been prioritised because the victim was a close friend of the president.
Unbeknown to 'Jack Ryan' however an order from within the C.I.A has authorised a military operation led by 'Clark' (William
Defoe) to exact revenge, 'Jack' though the order has come from his department is out of the loop of command.
'Jack' is ordered to go to 'Columbia' by the president to gather intelligence against the drug cartel, still unaware of the illegal
operation taking place, putting him in danger of his life.
Because of the action being directed against the cartel, it begins to seem as though war has broken out, what can 'Jack' do
when he appears to be at cross-purposes with members of his own department and indeed persons of higher office.
He realizes he has to take matters into his own hands risking his career and indeed his life....will the truth will-out ?
This a superior action/political story which does indeed have some good action sequences along the way, plenty of tension,
and a great performance as 'Jack Ryan' from 'Harrison Ford'
Great Blu-ray upgrade giving good picture and sound quality throughout.
Well worth a viewing or indeed a revisit.
Special Features - Behind The Danger - Cast and Crew Interviews.

Another high-level black-ops yarn with a fast-moving and action-packed story-line. Good value entertainment for those who like Jack Ryan's adventures as a special intelligence officer in a fictitious branch of the CIA. In this one, he takes over leadership from Admiral Greer and becomes very closely embroiled in an unsanctioned war against drug dealers in Columbia. Good bang-bang stuff!

In this follow up film Harrison is at his best. The story is good, and makes for a lazy Sunday afternoon's watching.
