5.0 out of 5 stars Eye to Eye 23 April 2006
Format:Audio CD
I really like this CD from Eye to Eye. Julian Marshall and Deborah Berg have hit the spot with Clean Slate.

Berg's effortlessly beautiful voice hooked me from first hearing Scenes By a Wishing Well. She really brings the lyrics alive.

Some stunning organ work here from Marshall, showing that less is more. The song also has some tasty horn playing.

In Fly Now Marshall and Berg show that it is possible to write a moving song responding to the appalling events of 9/11. There artistry really shines through in this haunting piece.

Dragon Fly has space and lovely guitar and keyboard passages.

This is a really well crafted and thoughtful album from Eye to Eye.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye To Eye -Clean Slate 7 Jun 2006
Format:Audio CD
Here's a thing - a brand new album with what might be thought of as traditional values. Eye to Eye is the trading name for Julian Marshall and Deborah Berg, two quirky songwriters and musicians. Clean Slate is a fine and strutting collection of songs made by people who come from a generation which understands that if music is to mean anything it needs to be played in real time by real people. Each word has its place, every note its space and no one has to shout to get heard.

Particular mention for drummer Martin Ditcham, who plays as if he has been touched by the gods, and for producer Rhett Davies who has created a cohesive sound world in which the music exists. The songs deal with grown up issues, parenting, the passing of time, lost affairs. There is even a hint of Dannish harmonies in the air. What more could you want? This album is a joy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth as Silk 12 Jun 2006
Format:Audio CD
I loved Scenes form a Wishing Well the first time i heard it and still enjoy it every time. Throughout the CD Deborah's voice bathes you like silk.

It has a slight jazz feel and feels somehow supportive rather than invasive. This is music for late on a summer evening. It has some great lyrics so don't just enjoy the music. I liked Mother of a Family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice to see them back! 16 Mar 2007

I am a huge fan of Eye to Eye from the 80's, and when I saw they had a dual CD with their first two albums on it I ordered it right away. I was also pleased to see they had come out with a CD in 2005 so my interest was peaked. Just got this today (others are back-ordered) and did a quick listen: I can tell it's one of those I will have to listen to a few times to really get into, but it's very well crafted and beautifully sung. I was expecting a little more of the hard-edged synth jazz-pop they were famous for in the 80's, but they have changed with the times, and this evokes more of a loungy, jazzy feel that is very pleasant to listen to. This is a rainy day reading a book or long drive in the car kind of CD. It's great to see them back and I hope they come out with more CDs in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Transported 19 Sep 2008

Wow. I love this album as much as the first one. Deborah Berg has not lost any of her intensity or honesty. She has changed as time gone by and it is a beautiful thing to see. If you are stuck in teenage rebellion and expect a rerun of the first album, don't bother. But if life has changed you in ways both expected and unexpected, you will enjoy this album. Deborah, thanks for staying with us, and for continuing to ply your art.
5.0 out of 5 stars OMG - A new album from Eye To Eye (after a 30 year wait!) 30 July 2013
By Bill Anthony - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Eye To Eye's first 2 albums (1981 and 1983) were classics produced by Gary Katz (Steely Dan)
with a little bit of help from the Dan boys themselves.
This new (2005) album has the same classic sound, with a bunch of great new songs.
