More About the Author

James Duigan is a globally respected health and wellbeing expert who has been transforming bodies and changing lives with incredible success around the world for over a decade.

Since founding Bodyism in 2006, James has trained some of the world's most famous bodies including Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Elle Macpherson. His attitude and expertise have placed him in high demand on both sides of the Atlantic, where his Clean & Lean philosophy has garnered press interest from the likes of Vogue, Women's Health, GQ and the Daily Mail.

James's interest in 'total wellbeing' was the driving force to share his knowledge beyond Bodyism's Personal Training clients. He created the Clean & Lean diet philosophy to give everybody a simple and achievable blueprint for a lean, strong and healthy body.

"Every person deserves to live a happy, fulfilled and purposeful life. Clean & Lean means you make mindful eating, exercise and lifestyle decisions for the long term. It moves away from emotionally unsustainable short term diets with a system that is effective, fun and great for our planet".

Clean & Lean encourages an organic, locally produced diet rich in lean protein, vegetables and healthy fats, cutting out toxic foods, summarised as CRAP (Caffeine, Refined sugar, Alcohol, Processed foods). "Toxic food stresses your body, encouraging it to cling to fat, feel tired and crave sugary pick-me-ups."

James' bestselling Clean & Lean diet book series now includes a brand new men's title, Clean & Lean Warrior. The Clean & Lean diet books have sold over 500,000 copies worldwide and have been translated into 6 languages. The books cover nutrition information, meal plans, exercise programmes, recipes and best practise advice on incorporating natural health supplements from the Clean & Lean Essential Range.

Based between London, Sydney and LA, James is married to the love of his life, Brazilian born model Christiane and is a proud new father to a beautiful baby girl.

Review

'James has made me lean and frankly irresistible.' Hugh Grant

'Modern man may be image-conscious, family-orientated and not afraid to shed a tear or two but how many males want to start the year mainlining cabbage soup or gossiping at a weekly weigh-in? If you find the idea of channelling your inner warrior more appealing than counting calories, the latest book by James Duigan could be right up your street.' --Western Mail

This is an accessible whistle-stop tour of healthy living advice for modern men. The authors' style is engaging, and his advice is delivered with encouragement rather than as instruction, all of which makes the book very readable. The suggested meal and exercise plans within the book are clearly explained. The pseudoscience does detract a little from the authors' arguments 'The green vegetables....have been specifically chosen to help your body become less acidic (remember, less acid = flatter stomach)' is one example which made me chuckle, but on the whole the advice seems sound, even if the explanations of the 'science' should be taken with a little sodium chloride. The book also promises further exercises and recipes online, however when visiting the website 29/12/12 there are half a dozen recipes and no additional exercises, though there is the option to purchase rather expensive nutritional supplements. Hopefully a commitment to develop the website will add value. Overall the book delivers sensible advice for those planning to eat more healthily, shed fat and increase muscle definition.

I have wanted to get fit and healthy for a while and although my training routine is up to scratch my diet was not, flirting with many fad diets and experimenting with carbs, protein, fats, etc. This book helps to understand what really gets a six-pack, the foods that help and hinder, and a mealplan that really works and at the same time does not deprive you of anything. Great book from a great health and fitness expert.

This book has easy to follow instructions to get that healthy lean body. It provides the reader with the knowledge to properly understand the contents of all food types, and the labelling that goes with it. Also, has a simple exercise guide to supplement the changes required. I recommend this book to anyone who is serious about changing their lifestyle for the better.

I am by no means fat, but I am prone to eating too much junk food on occasion or suffering from a chocolate feeding frenzy. This book has helped me to curb both my 'habits' and provided me with a catalyst for change.

I'm still no saint, but any improvement is better than no improvement!

Promises much - delivers....well more or less what every other book on dieting and keeping fit offers. The 'spin' is that gives a male viewpoint.

Having been very fit in my life, and looked not dissimilar to James at a number of times too - I thought Id give this a go to start the year. Ive bought a fair few fitness books in my time - weight-training, push-ups, jogging, body-building, etc - and some diet books - Harcombe diet etc - so as James looked how Id like to look now I thought it was worth a pitch, and it is.

Now 52 and needing to drop the best part of 4 stone (ouch, I dont like writing that down!)I was looking for a little inspiration. I think Im pretty clued up as to what to do now, but needed a prod.

The good parts of this book are very good indeed as you'd expect from someone with his credentials: dont eat processed foods, eat good meat (I'm vegetarian but no matter, there's options), particular fruits and veggies, avoid certain carbs. All good stuff - not revolutionary but needs reiterating or making plain.

And that's where we should all be of course. He does go on about organic quite a lot. And if that's your thing, fine. But the NHS website states that there is no evidence that organic is any better for you, so do as you can afford or conscience dictates. I personally would prefer to eat products that I was reasonably sure (if that's possible!?)didnt contain things that you wouldn't wish to consume ie hormones, additives etc. But, to be perfectly honest, I buy generally what comes to hand.

Yes, he does say that 'alcohol...it's literally all sugar' which is nonsense. But nevermind. He offers great advice on how to eat generally. Do I blame him for pushing his products though his book - Protein excellence for example - no. But I certainly don't plan to buy them either, and it is a bit cheeky all the same.

So, with some reservations, a thumbs up in the diet department.

It takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to this programme. For me there were some good tips and ideas and good sound nutritional advice contained in this book, but I won't be following the programme. I enjoy life too much.
