Book Description

The transformation for your body starts here. Even with the best diet intentions it is still possible to have a bloated, distended or flabby tummy. As James Duigan explains, the toxins in many low-fat and so-called 'diet' foods actually make your stomach fatter, plus allergies, stress and lack of sleep can also lead to an unattractive bulge. In 'Clean & Lean Flat Tummy Fast' James shows you how to eat your way to a flat stomach, with flexible meal plans, recipes and tips on avoiding the cravings that can lead you off track, then how to Work Off that Wobble, with a step-by-step illustrated guide to the best exercises for a totally toned tummy. And for those special occasions when you need results fast, there's James' 14-day Tummy Transformer, the tried and tested technique he uses when his model clients have last-minute photo shoots.

'For many women, getting bikini ready means tackling one dreaded area in particular - our tummies. Most of us still think the best way to achieve a washboard stomach is by doing hundreds of sit-ups. Not so, says A-list trainer and body guru James Duigan. James, who sculpts supermodels Elle Macpherson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley among others, insists there is no 'one size fits all' method for getting a flat belly. Instead, he's identified five key 'tummy types', all of which require a different approach to achieve a successful toning. Once you've identified your type, you can transform it following James' tailor-made plan and get that flat tummy fast.' Femail Magazine, Daily Mail

More About the Author

James Duigan is a globally respected health and wellbeing expert who has been transforming bodies and changing lives with incredible success around the world for over a decade.

Since founding Bodyism in 2006, James has trained some of the world's most famous bodies including Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Elle Macpherson. His attitude and expertise have placed him in high demand on both sides of the Atlantic, where his Clean & Lean philosophy has garnered press interest from the likes of Vogue, Women's Health, GQ and the Daily Mail.

James's interest in 'total wellbeing' was the driving force to share his knowledge beyond Bodyism's Personal Training clients. He created the Clean & Lean diet philosophy to give everybody a simple and achievable blueprint for a lean, strong and healthy body.

"Every person deserves to live a happy, fulfilled and purposeful life. Clean & Lean means you make mindful eating, exercise and lifestyle decisions for the long term. It moves away from emotionally unsustainable short term diets with a system that is effective, fun and great for our planet".

Clean & Lean encourages an organic, locally produced diet rich in lean protein, vegetables and healthy fats, cutting out toxic foods, summarised as CRAP (Caffeine, Refined sugar, Alcohol, Processed foods). "Toxic food stresses your body, encouraging it to cling to fat, feel tired and crave sugary pick-me-ups."

James' bestselling Clean & Lean diet book series now includes a brand new men's title, Clean & Lean Warrior. The Clean & Lean diet books have sold over 500,000 copies worldwide and have been translated into 6 languages. The books cover nutrition information, meal plans, exercise programmes, recipes and best practise advice on incorporating natural health supplements from the Clean & Lean Essential Range.

Based between London, Sydney and LA, James is married to the love of his life, Brazilian born model Christiane and is a proud new father to a beautiful baby girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars realistic plan 15 May 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I like this book. It looks good (I know, I'm so shallow but I do pay more attention if something looks good) and is realistic and achievable. The eating 'rules' are easy enough to follow and the exercise is realistic - nobody is going to sign up for 45 minutes of cardio and half an hour's weight training 5 days a week but this is something that most people can fit in to their lives without too much trouble. This has a 14 day plan to kick start your new regime and then a maintenance section. It also has a 6 day plan for fast results which he admits is boring and extremely hard work but a lot of models use it as a quick blast prior to a bikini shoot. The whole book is written as though the reader is an intelligent person, living a normal life. You are told why the rules exist and also allowed a cheat meal each week (once you've achieved the tummy you want) but the author also accepts that you are human and says that you should follow the rules as much as you can. I bought this book because having hit the grand old age of 43 I find that I can't eat what ever I want anymore. I'm still slim (size 10) but there are pockets of fat that I'm sure never used to be there so I started trying some of these 'fitness and nutrition' books. None of the others have suited me - silly rules like "no carbs after 6pm cos that's the way celebrities eat", fitness plans that build up to running for an hour 3 times a week and then coming home to do resistance training etc. I can follow this (been doing it for a week and seen a difference) and it appears healthy and reasonable. I fully recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clean and Lean 10 Jun. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Fabulous pictures of the what appears to be the authors wife in an amazing photo-location.
Would probably achieve the expected outcome, but unless you can exercise to the desired outcome in the pictures and eat 4 meals a day mainly consisting of lean chicken, and drink 3 litres of filtered water you're unlikely to be the same.
I agree that the book has some good and sensible ideas, which would enable more stars but it is a more of a self indulgent photo book than a serious diet and exe rice book for the majority of readers.
My advice if you want to go "clean and lean' is to buy the " I quit sugar" books by Sarah Wilson who gives clear sensible dietary advice and recipes that most people would actually shop for, cook and eat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Only a few dislikes. 3 Jun. 2011
This book gives great advice. Though I am far away from getting a flatter tummy, I am on track. However, I am not following it exactly! I am doing all the exercises, however I work from 8 to 5 in a very active job so I am not doing as many (for example the morning cardio). I am also not following the diet, as I want to take a bit longer over losing weight, as my job is physically demanding and losing much weight over a short time isn't very good for you. I can't eat as much as the table says to as I don't stop until 12 for lunch then I am off again (which is 6 small meals a day consisting of vedg and protine), also I can't go without carbohydrates. I do however still stick to the "clean" part. As much organic as possible and cut out as much unneeded fat as possible. I also follow other advice he gives like eat brown rice, bread, pasta ect never white. I make sure I sleep at least 7 hours a night and all that jazz!

Now for the annoyances. First is the fact he uses his own "Bodism" stuff in this diet plan. This is very annoying for someone who would want to follow the plan exactly and will probably need to! For example there is fiber supplement, this is needed as there is almost none in the diet plan! But its expencive, very expencive and most others have too much sugar/fat in them.

Second is his obsession about sugar. White sugar, like bread ect, is much worse for you. HOWEVER your body still needs any kind of sugar! This "anything ending in -ose is bad" thing is terribly worrying. Fructose for example is found in all fruit. Added sugar is bad, but don't cut it out completly! I still have half a teaspoon of brown (unrefined) sugar in my one cup of tea with skimmed milk in the morning which is pretty much the only "added" kind I have and I am still losing weight off my tummy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flat tummies please! 18 May 2011
Flat Tummy Fast gives a good overview of exactly what to do and what to eat to lose weight around your middle. The book reads very quickly and is more photographs than content, but if you're not into in-depth scientific explanations, then this is the guide for you. Personally, I would have liked more text. I like that he doesn't go crazy with the exercise - the focus is on your diet. As far as the advice goes, James emphasizes the harmfulness of sugar which was a wake-up call I really needed. But eating steamed mackerel for breakfast? No thanks. I was also disappointed that the menu in the book doesn't have any carbs, so it's essentially only meat and vegetables. My final complaint is that James recommends his bodyism powders and supplements, but they cost £60 a pop on his website :(
