I was thrilled to stumble across Karen Logan's book shortly after my son was born. I started to avoid cleaning because I detested using most household cleaners due to the harsh chemicals. I was also very concerned about my son's second-hand exposure or worse - possible direct contact. Karen's book educated me about the hazards of commericial cleaners and then taught me how to make my own simple and safe cleaners right in my kitchen. This information showed me that harsh cleaners are unnecessary and more important what natural products would produce similar results. Making my own products is also entertaining and educational for my toddler who is now able to "help" clean and I don't waste precious naptime on toilet bowls and bath tubs! Her receipes are very easy to follow and are effective!!! I gave away all my commericial products almost two years ago and have not gone back to one of them. It's so comforting to know that my family is no longer exposed to harmful cleaners and we are doing our part in protecting the environment.

Well, I am officially converted. I never in a million years thought I'd make my own cleaners, but here I am....and loving it! Karen Logan does a good job of making a clear, readable book with easy recipes and honest assessments of the hazards of typical household products. I got this book because my husband is so sensitive to chemicals and very allergic. He was recently sent into an allergic fit from toilet cleaner, and I decided to look for a better way!
The book has tons of recipes which are pretty much some variaion on combining liquid soap, water, vinegar, and/or baking soda with some essential oils. At first I was rolling my eyes at the tons of tiny variations...then I used the cleaners and was impressed. I was particularly impressed with her Ant Stay Away spray, the glass cleaner, and the toilet scrub. She gives her cleaners cutesy names, which is annoying, but just ignore that and try them. Logan also gives some good old fashioned cleaning instructions, which may be a big help to some people.
The recipes have an effectiveness rating, as compared to the typical products you would buy. The price and product comparisons are in US Dollars and are US products, but that is no big deal for UK readers, really.
I highly recommend it!

Karen Logan offers practical ways to save money and be environmentally friendly. None of the tips are strange or difficult to incorporate into everyday life. I ordered an extra copy to lend out to friends. For a great housewarming gift, I give this book and a bottle of essential oil. Everyone loves it!
