Edwin Starr laid the foundations for his musical career at the tender age of 15 when he started his first band, The Future Tones in 1956. The vocalist on the most popular protest song ever recorded, the Norman Whitfield produced, "War," Edwin Starr had a string of hits and chart successes all the way from his earliest recordings in the 60s right up to the 2000's with his songs being covered by various artists.
1978 saw the release of Edwin Starr's second 20th Century Records album, CLEAN. CLEAN would go onto become Edwin Starr's most successful album since his Motown days.
The album entered the top 100 in the US Pop charts and peaked at #22 in the US R&B charts. The singles climbed even higher with CONTACT becoming a top 10 hit in the UK and would go on to become one of the most instantly recognizable Disco anthems while the upbeat, I'M SO INTO YOU became a minor UK Soul hit. CLEAN also features the heartfelt soulful ballad JEALOUS helping this to be an extremely well rounded and enjoyable album.
BBR is very proud to present this newly re-mastered and wonderfully re-packaged expanded edition of CLEAN which makes its international CD debut here. This reissue features two bonus tracks mastered from the original 20th Century mater tapes in New York by Grammy nominated Engineer, Kevin Reeves.
Released in deluxe Super Jewel cases, complete with extensive liner notes with an interview with Edwin Starr's manager, Lilian Kyle and additional bonus content.

Great cd beautifully remastered

Edwin Starr had many highlights throughout his career and CLEAN was definitely one of them. Released in 1978 on 20th Century Records CLEAN proved to be an excellent example of his true versatility as a performer. His first foray into disco really happened here and the first was the huge hit CONTACT. Though disco it managed to be an excellent display of Starr's vocal prowess. The song has a strong beat and masculine vigor. WORKING SONG is the other dance track and it also works seamlessly. The rest of the album is an impressive display of the talent Starr possessed. His gruff deep baritone is very expressive as he tackles the beautiful soulful ballads JEALOUS and DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. He ventures into classic r&b with the uptempo I'M SO INTO YOU and STORM CLOUDS ON THE WAY. The album is smooth from beginning to end as it covers many musical styles. From song to song it is the voice and emotive ability of Edwin Starr that makes each track his own. BBR has remastered this classic beautifully and there are extensive liner notes and two bonus tracks. This cd shows a great singer in his prime and is a must have for soul, r&b and disco fans. Highly recommended.

Edwin Starr is a legend whose song WAR is timeless. It must have been quite a shock to hear him do disco. But there is much more to this album, CLEAN, from 1978, then the smash CONTACT. But CONTACT is a great track, a funky R&B number that happens to be a great song to dance to. The rest of the album is pure soul with Starr's voice as passionate and emotional as always. Major thumbs up go to the label BBR from Britain who re-masters these lost gems that are found again. This is a treasure for those who love late 70's Soul. Liner notes are soooo informative and fascinating.
