5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational choreography, sensational dancing 29 April 2008
Although I too love Kilian I disagree with the second review strongly- this is a wonderful work beautifully performed by wonderful dancers.
The acting of the innocent young woman during her breakdown into madness is beautifully performed. The Yared score is exciting and I loved the dramatic sets. From the "Grecian" chorus of corps de ballet to the final dying scene this was a performance as a ballet lover that I would not want to miss. Modern real ballet at its best with intense choreography and lots of erotica too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding !!! 3 July 2005
An outstanding performance by the Paris Opera dancers. It is really good to see how well those ballet dancers can move and perform in a contemporary choreography. A guaranteed satisfaction for all those who can appreciate the perfect blending of movement and music..

2.0 out of 5 stars Innovative? 13 July 2007
As a Kylian and Mats Ek's fans, Clavigo looks really boring for me (Regret to have paid for this video). Feel embarrasing to watch this "trying-to-be-innovative-but-actually-very-old-fashioned" style. Dancers have nice technique and body line, but I'd rather see them doing classcial ballet. Do prefer to see a more expressive way of telling and structuring the story, and more geniune body language from all characters, especially the leading male role.

5.0 out of 5 stars thrilling perfomance 9 Mar 2007

There are few people who can make modern dance to be not just a combination of moves, even fewer who keep your constant attention. This is a unic performance! Bravo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Low key but must have 23 Feb 2013
By Balletomane - Published on
This is worth having just for the entrance of Mr le Riche's remarkable entrance in the bedroom scene- but there is much more of course.
This is a low key work- the music does not have memorable themes but flows with the dancing very well, and the dancing of course (being the POB)
is a feast for the eye. The principals are superb and well backed up by the corps de ballet. The story is a well walked path but this is a must have for those of us who appreciate seeing etoiles like Le Riche Gillot and Osta in their prime- even with the shortcomings of Petit's choreography.
Soundtrack is excellent, video direction so-so (still too many close-ups for me) but overall a satisfying package well worth the money for those already familiar with the principals with a caveat that other works might be better for first time buyers seeking an introduction to ballet.Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful new ballet 15 Aug 2013

I have watched many ballets live and in videos, and I was deeply impressed with the beauty of the Roland Petit choreography and the Paris Opera dancers. Oh, not to mention, the music by Gabriel Yared. This ballet took my breath away. I first watched a rented copy from Netflix and immediately ordered my copy from Amazon. This ballet is fresh and breathtaking. This is modern ballet with incredible difficult movements with very pleasing results. Highly highly recommended.
