My real name is Claude Forthomme, I am Belgian-born. That's the name everyone who's met me at the United Nations knows. After working there 25 years and ending my career as FAO Director for Europe and Central Asia, I decided to try something else. I had always written (and painted - but that's another story) and now I wanted to put to good use my writing talent.
While at work, I had published three books, a non-fiction essay in English (about development aid) and two fiction books in Italian. One of them, a children's book, had won many prizes, in particular the Premio Mediterraneo in 1992, along with famed Brazilian author Jorge Amado and best-selling Italian novelist Alberto Bevilacqua. I was very happy to meet them! Now, with more time on my hands, what I wanted to do was to explore the human condition - with a touch of humor, gravity and, of course, romantic suspense.
I took a good look at the past, and from this, the trilogy "Luna Rising" was born. It explores 900 years of Sicilian History, through the unusual lens of a coming-of-age story. Then I took a good look at the present, and the romance "Crimson Clouds" was born. It recounts a story very similar to mine: a United Nations manager retires and decides to become an artist (just as I did at first - I had some 15 shows between 2004 and 2008). Because of that decision, his marriage unravels (unlike mine, Thank God!)
Looking to the future yielded "Gateway to Forever", the first volume of what I hope will become a trilogy. I wrote this book because, as a social scientist (Columbia U. graduate) I am deeply concerned by the current social trends I have observed in the last decade, such as rising inequality, and the threat of global collapse due to highly probable events like climate change and the 6th Extinction. But this is not a dire look into a dystopian future. It is also a book about love and the power of love to change things.
And of course, like so many other writers, I have written short stories (one volume published) and poetry (some of it published in an anthology along with four other poets - Freeze Frame). I regularly contribute articles to Publishing Perspectives and Impakter. I am married and live in Italy.
