Review

A wonderful creation for newly independent readers. (The Bookseller)

A treat for new readers. (Peters Gazette)

Comic talent not just for writing a good story but also illustrating it in a fitting but hilarious style. (Books For Keeps)

I loved everything about this book. (Bookbag)

A wonderful creation for newly independent readers. (indie bound Christmas Books)

Thank goodness Alex T Smith is doing such a grand job of continuing to feed my Claude habit. I do like to steal the Claude stories away from my daughter and curl up to read them myself as they always cheer me up. Smith has great style in his artwork, and a real sense of fun, and he matches it perfectly with the cleverly crafted stories. * * * * * (Bookbag)

Delightfully witty... beautifully-judged text with enormously appealing illustrations. (Ham & High)

Another Claude book - wonderful! Excellent for newly confident young readers... beautifully produced too. (parentsintouch.co.uk)

Quirky illustrations and a truly endearing central character make this a winner for both children and parents. (World Book Day)

Children and adults will love Claude's exploration of the countryside... a hilarious addition to this stylish series. Claude really is the cream of the crop for younger readers. (We Love This Book)

There is no relenting in the quality of this series. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about the Claude series, nothing. (Library Mice)

Quintessentially British humour from writer/illustrator Smith... whimsical and charming. (Financial Times)

An out-and-out winner this. (Daily Telegraph)

Innovative illustrations... Claude's surreal adventures are both amusing and fun to read, having great appeal for newly confident readers. (Books for Keeps)

A lively read, with images in a stylish retro palette of black, white and red. (Junior)

Cleverly mixing the everyday and the surreal. (Carousel)

Highly lovable... Claude is a rather extraordinary little dog who appeals to this age range immensely. (Rascals of London)

Brilliant... much-loved... extraordinary. Great for sharing and with a highly lovable character. This lively read will get both children and adults chuckling. (Red House Children's Book Award)

This is one of a series of books about Claude, who lives with Mr and Mrs Shinyshoes and his friend Sir Bobblysock. When Mr and Mrs Shinyshoes go out to work, Claude and Sir Bobblysock have adventures. These are wonderful stories - packed with illustrations and with a small amount of text on each page, so ideal for newly fluent readers just moving on to longer books.

In this adventure, Claude decides to take a trip to the country, where he helps Mrs Cowpat on her farm and visits the County Fair. When an angry bull escapes its enclosure, can Claude save the day? Packed with humour, these books will appeal to both boys and girls aged 5+. A great series of books, which don't need to be read in any order. This particular story was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2012, but the entire series is a delight.

Another BRILLIANT Claude book! 2 year old and 6 year old both love it equally. It's Jack and the Flum-flum tree meets Lauren Child. The drawings are great, the text is super witty, and it's like having 4 story books in one. Perfect gift, I'd say from birth to newly independent readers. Also, books for older children tend to be printed on novel-type paper - this is very tactile, glossy picture book paper, with illustrations to expand on the words. More please!

It's great when you're sharing a story with a child and you both laugh out loud. Nothing makes you want to continue reading more. Claude and Sir Bobblysocks are amongst the best newly imagined characters of the past few years. I recommend the Claude stories to families and schools, unequivocally.

My 5 year old daughter loves these Claude stories - they are great little books that she can read to herself time time again. Even the size of the books mean she can pop them in her bag - great for travelling! A few more adventures please Alex!
