I bought this item as I needed a low-energy kettle to boil and keep warm and this is the only domestic cheap product on the market. After reading the instructions and following them, t was clear that the item was not switching off when boiling and continued to boil all over the side and was very dangerous with water all down the sides of the appliance.

I sent it back as faulty and got a replacement. This was exactly the same, even on minimum fill, it still splashed out of the pot and had to be switched off by hand. I decided to try ignoring the "important instructions" by not removing the filter if just boiling water. It worked and did switch off at boiling point (but even after 20 boils you still taste a bit of plasticy in your tea). The filter is integral to it's operation and nowhere is this stated in the instructions.

Also the spout is the worst I've ever used. Unless you trickle small amounts, you will flood your counter-top when filling a cup or teapot with it. I now have a towel there to mop up the puddle each time. I will take a tool to it and re-cut the spout at some point - it is annoying and could be dangerous as it pours down the kettle. The lid clicks into place when you refill it but is fiddly and not easy, so if you are refilling it hot, it is difficult and does not easily click down without a struggle. A hinged lid would have been far superior.

I have decided to keep the kettle, even though it is a badly designed product, with no thought of attention to detail. I have solar panels and it's the only low-energy (650W) kettle on the market that is switch-off, cordless, self-boil and economic to use. It is a rubbish product though and most people would be appalled with it. I won't be buying any Clatronic products again.

Definitely the worst consumer product I have ever used!

We had a Tefal Perfect Teamaker until something fell on it in the Kitchen and broke it. But that WAS a good product.

The one good thing about this device is that it makes two good mugs of tea from a one-cup bag. We use it with the filter in place even with a tea bag simply because we didn’t want to be fiddling about to get the used bag out.

It came with a moulded-on continental plug so the first task was changing the plug. Not a good start.

Putting the filter unit into place turns out to be quite fiddly because it doesn’t easily slip into the ‘rose’ at the bottom.

Then when you’ve made your tea, you have to pour it quite slowly and at a fairly precise rate, too quickly or too slowly and the tea runs down the outside of the jug. In any case, condensation runs down the front from the lid.

Then there’s the handle. Unless you get down level with it and grasp it at that angle, the sharp-edged metal part cuts into your hand.

Unfortunately, it’s the only product of this kind on the market at present.

TEFAL, are you listening? BRING BACK THE PERFECT TEAMAKER.

I have yet to try out this item as it arrived from Germany with a two pin European plug so I now have to purchase an adaptor. That said it looks a neat little gadget and I cannot wait to try it out. 3 Stars as yet to find out if it does what it says on the tin!
