Question is - why would you want to buy this? Anybody who has heard any of Warrior Soul's output would quickly realise that they are onto a good thing and buy every thing they ever produced, including the imaginatively titled outtakes Cd: 'Outtakes' - I won't mention it's other title as it's not printable, suffice to say it rhymes with 'trucker'. So why buy a `Greatest Hits' which omits such classics as 'Charlie's Out Of Prison', 'No,No,No', or 'The Golden Shore'? Well, firstly everything pre Space Age Playboys has been re recorded. In essence the song arrangements are identical but the bottom end has been pulled out massively. The bass is way up in the mix and clanks instead of hums, which gives more of a jamming sound to the songs. Secondly the guitars have a fuzzier, harder edge and thirdly, despite a few omissions noted above, it is really the crème de la crème of Kory's output. Beefing up the pre Playboys songs allows the whole to flow, as the production catches up with the latter days cleaner sound and Kory's vocals are in relatively good shape, which is also a worry if you buy some of his later output. So this is worth a few quid to get the early stuff revamped but ultimately it will lead you to the full canon of Kory's faultless bloodline.

In case you don't know what it sounds like, think smart high energy rock/metal with a massive slab of punky exuberance (not in a bad way - think Iggy Pop) coupled with intelligent and often political (read anti Republican, anti religion, anti war, anti establishment) lyrical content, which as a description does it little justice as it's that good.

The highlights are basically everything that doesn't come off the flawed Chill Pill album and are topped by the clanking version of Wasteland....

HI all kory clarke isa genius that the world missed.I bought the first warrior soul album in 1988 could not belive what astonishing mix of punk and power it contained. I have just listened to the Mob Research cd and can confirm the man is a genius. There is not abad cd in the Warrior soul back catalogue, despite his voice changhing over the years. Buy them all they are great.

ABsolutely terrific band - Kory Clarke is a genius. If you like your punk rock loud, wild and sleazy this is for you! They should be massive but there you go - the now ubiquitous X-Factor conveyor belt of braindead mush is stupefying the kids and rock n roll as an art form seems pointless in the hands of idiots like Pete Doherty and Johnny Borrell. This is how it should be done - with conviction, and a swagger so cocky and sexually charged it would get your granny reaching for the KY...

Awesome 31 Oct 2002
By Scott Scheinhaus - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Warrior Soul is a band that took on society, and lost. An awesome band that never recieved the recognition that it deserved. I remember that first time "We Cry Out" aired on Headbanger's Ball. I wasn't too impressed with it, and then came "The Losers". I picked up the album, and what a pleasant surprise. So, these guys get together after so many years and decide to record some of their classics with a fresh new sound. The Bullet Boys did this as well as Love/Hate. I love it! It's loud!
I would like to commend the previous reviewer, particularly his noticing that "We Are The Government" was really Joy Division's "Interzone". Good call! I would have never caught that one.

The Pros and Cons of Classics 15 Jun 2002
By mrmogwai@hotmail.com - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Pros: Nice to hear the real Warrior Soul again and nice that they've taken back a lot of their old material. In particular the redone versions of songs from "Last Decade Dead Century" stand out because of the dated sound of the original recordings-- now the guitars actually stand out, and "Tripping on Ecstasy" actually rocks instead of being lightweight postpunk.
Cons: This could take a while... the most galling flaw is a terrible version of "The Wasteland," widely regarded as their best, which swaps the Jane's Addiction-like power of the original for a garage hair metal band sound. We find out that "We Are the Government" is actually Joy Division's "Interzone" (even though it's credited to Warrior Soul), "Love Destruction" trades all funkiness and tightness for slackened metal, and the songs taken from the final two albums weren't very memorable to begin with and are less so in the so-so versions here.
And Kory, everything doesn't need to be so loud.
Uncredited bonus track is "Blown" from "Salutations From the Ghetto Nation".

Get Your Fix 29 May 2009
By Markus Pacal - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Around the turn of the millenium, the 4 members of Warrior Soul's best & best-known lineup got together to re-record some old tracks for this release on Spitfire Records. It's great to see a great, underappreciated band reform again, even if it was for just one record. Remastered cd's are always a mixed bag. And re-recorded songs are even harder to get right and many times end up being a total waste of time. However, W. Soul does it right & gets it right.

Clarke, Ricco, McClanahan & Evans turn out 15 outstanding cuts from all five of their studio records. The re-recording makes the songs just that more powerful w/ the bass being much more prevelant in the mix. Kory's vocals are a little more jagged, but that's what happens after years of hard-drinkin', many, many packs of cigs & talkin' trash all night long. He's a bonafide rock-star & behaves as such. Long-time fans will really enjoy this release & it would probably be a good intro. for newcomers despite the fact that these are not the original versions. They're just that good. The only drawback is that the 4 band members weren't able to put apart their differences and put out some new recordings or a tour. Which gives fans even more of a reason to go out & get this.
