Sarah Brightman is to classical vocals what Vanessa Mae is to classical violin. Thanks, probably, to her combination of physical and vocal beauty, record label Angel have decided that she can sell records. Can she make classical music trendy? Probably not, but many people are closet classical music fans, and most of them will enjoy this album immensely. Brightman has a superbly powerful voice that is capable of reproducing a great selection of classical pieces along with some new creations. Among the former, Ave Maria and Pie Jesu are two great Catholic classics that Brightman revives with aplomb, and her treatment of Nessun Dorma certainly gives the Three Tenors a run for their money. Brightman's voice has that curious quality of being uncluttered. Despite her distinctly operatic style, her tone is clear and true; there is never a ragged edge or any hint of loss of control through any of even the most demanding pieces. Her tonal qualities are perhaps even better demonstrated in her new work, especially in English, such as the beautiful Winter Light. The music for each track is exactly right, which many classical vocal tracks fail to achieve by being almost competed against by their orchestra. Brightman's songs are backed by quiet, subtle music when this is called for, and sweeping, grandiose crescendos when they are appropriate. The whole album is superbly mastered and would be a beautiful addition to anyone's CD collection.

CLASSICS is the BEST CD if you could only have ONE in this world.

AVE MARIA, this song have been performed by so many in the course of time - but I have never heard it more beautiful, than Sarah's version.

LA WALLY (EBBEN N'ANDRO LONTANA) is an opera aria. Sarah sings it incredible beautiful.
Sarah use this song in the beginning and in the end of A QUESTION OF HONOUR. You can hear this version on the CD: THE VERY BEST OF 1990-2000, and the DVD: LA LUNA - LIVE IN CONCERT. It's fantastic on the DVD.

WINTER LIGHT, the melody is used in the movie THE SECRET GARDEN. The song is about the cycle of the life. Thats why you can hear Sarah's breathing throughout the song. It sounds wonderful and Sarah's voice is amazing.

It's fantastic that Albinoni's ADAGIO, composed about 300 years ago, can be used today, for the song ANYTIME, ANYWHERE. This phenomenal song is in my opinion one of the most beautiful in the world - anytime, anywhere. I'm sure that Albinoni would be proud if he could hear Sarah sing it. It's also on the DVD: ONE NIGHT IN EDEN - LIVE IN CONCERT.

ALHAMBRA (a Moroccan castle in Spain). Beautiful.

LASCIA CH'IO PIANGA, from Händel's opera RINALDO. Excellent!

DANS LA NUIT is a marvellous song, composed by Chopin as TRITESSE.
HOW FAIR THIS PLACE, Sarah sings in Russian. Very beautiful.

O MIO BABBINO CARO by Puccini is so beautiful performed by Sarah. Her voice is so incredible beautiful and bright. This song is also on the DVD: IN CONCERT AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL.

LA LUNA is an incredible beautiful song. Sarah sings this song in two ways: 1) a "real" opera version on the CD: LA LUNA (13 tracks, the album with FIRST OF MAY) and 2) a more "soft" opera version on this CD and LA LUNA (15 tracks, the album with WINTER IN JULY).

PIE JESU is from Andrew's church mess REQUIEM (1985). Sarah use to sing duet with a boy - but I think it sounds better solo - as in this album. It's a very moving song.
FIGLIO PERDUTO is a church mess song too. Composed by Beethoven (SYMPHONY NO. 7).
A fantastic song with a church choir.

NESSUN DORMA, this Puccini opera song is in a new version on this CD. The song is in a longer version and there is more choir singing. Sarah sings it better than any sopranos or tenors.
BAILERO, a wonderful song.

Sarah sings TIME TO SAY GOODBYE solo on this CD. I want to hear Sarah's voice as much a possible so I like the solo better than the duet. It's superior.

The photo on the back cover of the album, is inspired by the Roman goddess Venus. It's very stylish and beautiful.

THANK YOU SARAH, for all your incredible and beautiful songs you have given to this world. Your are so talented. A very wonderful and warm-heartedness person.

This CD is one of the four best in the world - together with TIMELESS, EDEN, and LA LUNA. And not forgetting: THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, DIVE, SURRENDER, THE A.L.W. COLLECTION, ENCORE etc.

AWAY FROM YOU, there is no music, there is no sunlight, the world is grey.

SARAH there is NO ONE LIKE YOU (TIMELESS).
