Craib's overall coverage of the theories, and his attention to background information is very good, and his style is lucid and uncluttered. However, you do need to be aware that Craib has not just tried to lay out a simplified 'road map' to help you pick up the main points, he is interpreting and evaluating the things he covers as well. This might well prove to be a hindrance to less self confident students who may be tempted to simply accept Craib's arguments rather than coming to their own reasoned conclusions from the original texts (with or without the aid of a 'helper' book)
Overall then, Craib has done a very good job of presenting the basics of the theories, his arguments from them are good and well reasoned, and should be used to help you rather than be a substitute for your own reasoning. I am somewhat hesitant to recommend this for weaker students who might find Craib's arguments to be intimidating rather than a stimulus to their own thought, but if you are fairly self confident and are willing to put in the hours reading the original texts then this book will be an excellent companion for you.
