Vimla Lalvani's 'classic yoga' is one of the best guides to modern yoga on sale today. It follows three courses of yoga, ranging from beginners right through to fairly advanced yoga. Each position comes complete with a clear picture example and instructions, and the book explains how and why yoga will improve your life. Vimla Lalvani is an expert on yoga, and has written many books on it. Due to her knowledge and experience, and the wonderful simplicity of this book, it is an absolute must for anyone interested in yoga.

A three part foundation course,

As a beginner I found this book very helpful with its colourful photographs and clear step-by-step instructions. This book is concentrated on Hatha Yoga, the only physical form and first stage of development. Before you begin, you become familiar with the safety guidelines, breath control and correct posture. There is also warm-up and relaxation sections. The courses consist of three courses: Course 1 teaches basic yoga postures, course 2 introduces more dynamic poses and course 3 builds on your increased stamina and expertise. You will find it perfect especially if you are learning yoga by yourself.

Best book on the subject that I could find,

The large color pictures in this book make it very easy to use and the instructions are clear and concise. Most yoga books are full of philosophy and tangents but this one focuses on physical stretching. I noticed a measurable improvement in the first week and I feel better too.

This book is terrific. Most yoga books are so complicated, you want to give up before you even begin. The book is divided into 3 "courses", or levels, of difficulty. The illustrations are actually large color photographs which are a terrific help in performing the exercises. This is the best book I've found for learning yoga basics.

Takes you from basic to advanced,

This book is great for the beginner or those who are more advanced. It starts of with an explanation into the different types of yoga. This book deals with Hatha yoga (which is the physical aspect of yoga). You are then guided through a great warmup and onto 3 different levels of postures. You can start with the basic and as you improve move onto the more advanced levels. The pictures are full color and easy to follow. Breathing techniques for each move is explained along with the physical benefits. The only drawback is minor - the book is not easy to lay flat, so following the pictures is a little frustrating like this. However, I fully recommend this book.
