Dating from 1982, Ken Wilson's Classic Walks followed The Big Walks and preceded Wild Walks. The routes featured are substantial mountain daywalks, but less challenging than the monster outings featured in 'The Big Walks'. Back in 1982, these books were a revelation, with big exciting photos many of them in colour! The text is also less flat and dreary than in earlier books such as the rather ponderous Poucher.
That today they look a little drab and dated is purely down to the big step up in standards that they themselves induced for this sort of book. The walks are still good ones, the outfits are historic for students of costume (remember knee-breeches?). Many of the contributors are famous names of their day.
