Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This CD which can be bought very cheaply through Amazon suppliers was recorded over a two day period in 1998 and is good value as background music. However, it has non of the magical quality of Acker Bilk of old. In fact, I didn't recognise the playing, most of which I found flat and uninspiring. Compare with a CD such as Stranger on the Shore (The best of Acker Bilk) which are original tracks from the 70's and 80's. Sit back and listen enthralled as Acker Bilk makes the clarinet speak!

Acker Bilk may no longer be thought the most fashionable artist these days but should not be overlooked by those who enjoy good music played well.
Acker has more than payed his dues over the years and can be relied upon to give outstanding value for money whether you are priveliged to see him play live or listen to him on disc.
His playing style or 'signature' is instantly recognised and he really makes his instrument sing with emotion.
This disc involves Acker covering some of the great Movie theme tunes of the past and also the present with his own inimitable style, a truly soothing album that will help you revive after a hard day, Acker as always gives a masterclass in musicianship.
If you are not worried about following trends and just want a good value CD with excellent music and arrangements then this may fit the bill for you. Recommended.
