Book Description

10 Jun 2000
Made from molasses or the juice of sugar cane, rum was first distilled in the 17th century in the Caribbean - sugar cane having been brought to the West Indies by Columbus. The trading of rum soon became a major business throughout the American colonies and Europe. A tour of rum in all its styles - white, golden and dark - this book examines its history and culture, how it's made, and features an A-Z of all the classic brands, their histories and tasting notes, from rare "single marks" to household names - Pusser's, Wray's, Lamb's Navy, Captain Morgan, Mount Gay, Barcardi). In addition, there are recipes for rum-based drinks and tips on using rum for cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brandy (not Rum) 31 Mar 2008
Format:Hardcover
The ISBN 1853752983 refers to "BRANDY" by Nicholas faith and not "Rum" by Julie Arkell (as stated in the Amazon review). I have a copy of book BRANDY here and have taken the isbn from my copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive listing of rum 5 Aug 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I've enjoyed reading through all the different manufacturers and types of rum. As a rum collector and coniosseur, the review of each brand is pretty much on the money, and the listings by alphabet and by manufacturer are very helpful. I was able to help a restaurant friend order the rums to stock his new Caribbean restaurant by using this book! It goes to show you that there is more to rum than Bacardi!
5.0 out of 5 stars Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! 31 Mar 2013
By M. R. Watson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I came across this book a week or so ago in my Wines and Spirits shop 'Drinkland' here in The Hague. While I have enjoyed drinking rum in various concoctions for more than 50 years it had never occurred to me to read a book on the subject but, since I trust my W & S dealer as I would my dentist or barber, seeing it among the reference books he provides for his customers I picked it up, glanced through it and borrowed it from him. At home I read the book more carefully and to my surprise and pleasure I found a reference to 'Gosling's Black Seal' rum, which is the most popular of the three or four rums blended on the "vexed Bermoothes". If you ever come across either the book or the rum, buy it! It will change your life for the better.
