Listened to this album when I was very young, my dad used to play it, so it is deep in my memory. Some of the songs still send shivers down my spine. I believe this is the first album of Classic Rock LSO did and it is the best compared to the more recent albums. It sounds a lot more raw and were not afraid to sound agressive and adventurous escpecially with 'Whole Lotta Love' and 'Paint It Black'. The first 5 songs are magical. It is a classic, you gotta own it.

At time of this records release I played in an Orchestra myself and would have loved to have tackled some of this material as well as the usual classical repertoire.

The record is timeless and it's one I have kept in my collection, and it still gets a play every now and then. I agree with the other reviewer that the 5 tracks on what was side 1 are all brilliant. Side 2 doesn't quite match the standards, although the take on 'Without you' is really moving. There are, what I consider a few spine tingling moments to note. The choir entry on 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in the middle just prior to singing "anyway the wind blows", the soothing strings and organ solo on 'Whiter shade of pale' and the massed choir singing at the climax of 'Paint it black' (a song whose original I had not heard prior to 'Classic Rock' amazingly). The intro of 'Whole lotta love' is also inspirational.

This selection I think proved hard to follow and 'The Second Movement' album for me (with only 8 tracks compared to 10 on this) had its moments, particularly on 'Hey Joe' and 'Day in the life', but did not quite reach the standards of this excellent debut.

This album though comes highly recommended.

This album is THE ONE , the original recording of the best classic rock album of all time at the time the LSO were practising well these songs . Album release 1977....It was on the TV ads and this is the album you remember other than the new KTEL release box set with same songs but different versions of a newer recording not hem which left me very disappointed..........I really want this album....it was misleading as I thought KTEL had just changed the cover of the album adding some new material I did not know they were new recordings....................if anyone has this on CD.....I am buying!!! Contact me...I will be back in this space in a few months time...........I cannot believe such a huge seller for this genre is sold out of CD's and I have tired EBay, Amazon and everywhere on Google. No joy. There is a vinyl trade of these 1977 original albums going on on EBay and Amazon but that is all. I hope KTEL reflect and get their act together and start resupplying and restocking this breathtaking album. It is the BEST and original recording......and I am utterly amazed it is so hard to find!!!!!!! I will be contacting KTEL again in due course if they don§t get back to me otherwise we are all forced to buy vinyl and record player and transfer that to digital files...unless they release it as a Mp3 file.I have checked that as well and it is not released as an mp3 either. Hopefully it will not be long till a new run of these is in the shops by KTEL. I am buying it as soon as I see it on Amazon. Be wary of other imitations. This is THE one to get the famous multi seller in 1977...the one we all remember.

The London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus aren't too snobby to 'lower' themselves by playing 'pop' music then! After all, proper musicians can turn their hand to anything. They do so here, and in all the subsequent albums they recorded in a similar concept. I once owned this particular one in its original form on cassette back in the 80s-- until it jammed and got ruined -- dear old cassettes! Nice to be reunited with it again in its digitised remixed form. I buy this sort of stuff because I'm an artist/illustrator who works continually to this sort of music in the background -- played loud or soft, I find it so stimulating. Ten big tracks by the greats of rock. Wonderful stuff that doesn't overpower you!
