Product Description

Classic Rock Presents Jimi Hendrix Guitar Hero is the second premium edition DVD and magazine release from Classic Rock, the follow up to the hugely successful Slash-pack in April.

Classic Rock Presents Jimi Hendrix Guitar Hero is a 90 minute DVD movie and comes with a deluxe 132 page magazine and A1 poster. Jimi Hendrix Guitar Hero is the critcially acclaimed masterpiece study of Hendrix and his music. The film was selected in the Critics Choice of the Week in the Sunday Times prestigious Culture section when a heavily edited 50 minute version was screened on BBC in early September. This is the first time that this 90 minute version has been made commercially available.

Produced and directed by celebrated music movie pro Jon Brewer, Jimi Hendrix: Guitar Hero is the definitive study upon Hendrix's unique impact on the rock music scene and his legacy by those who were there and those who are still influenced by him today. Narrated by modern day guitar icon Slash the film also features contributions from, among others, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Mick Taylor, Lemmy, Stephen Stills and Leon Hendrix.

The deluxe magazine is the ultimate companion guide to the film and is edited by rock writing legend Mick Wall whose recent works include the award winning 'When Giants walked the Earth:The unofficial story of Led Zeppelin'. The magazine charts the rise of Jimi Hendrix and draws upon many first hand accounts to create a definitive from those who were there perspective.

This started out as a BBC4 documentary one Friday evening in September 2010, and was made as a memorial to the 40 years since Jimi Hendrix' untimely passing. And it was so good that I sat there wishing I had Sky+'d it, and wondering if they would they be releasing it as a DVD? Well, they have, and this is it, although it's a slightly longer version, which we're not gonna complain about, are we.
With the 3 member's of the Experience now passed, along with Chas Chandler and several others, this doc broadens its net to capture some of the other people who knew and rubbed shoulders with the man during his short but amazing career. Like Lemmy of Motorhead, who was one of his roadies at the time, and always has something interesting, and often poignant, to say.
It's narrated by Slash, who, along with Lemmy, includes Traffic's Dave Mason, Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, The Animals vocalist and close friend of Jimi's, Eric Burdon, Free / Bad Company singer, Paul Rodgers, Cream's Ginger Baker, and many more. There is plenty of live footage, of course, so this is a must for the collection.
If you're quick, you get this DVD in a neat, hard-backed booklet with plenty of pages and words and photos, PLUS the 132 page Classic Rock magazine dedicated to all things Jimi Hendrix, which is a collector's piece par-excellence. Don't delay, buy it today!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable DVD 8 May 2011
I enjoyed the DVD being a huge Hendrix fan and collector. I thought the DVD contained a lot of interesting opinions and insights.
The Magazine is also a good read but does contain several inaccurate dates and information, but I guess considering this is about a man who died in 1970 things can get a little HAZY.
