This started out as a BBC4 documentary one Friday evening in September 2010, and was made as a memorial to the 40 years since Jimi Hendrix' untimely passing. And it was so good that I sat there wishing I had Sky+'d it, and wondering if they would they be releasing it as a DVD? Well, they have, and this is it, although it's a slightly longer version, which we're not gonna complain about, are we.
With the 3 member's of the Experience now passed, along with Chas Chandler and several others, this doc broadens its net to capture some of the other people who knew and rubbed shoulders with the man during his short but amazing career. Like Lemmy of Motorhead, who was one of his roadies at the time, and always has something interesting, and often poignant, to say.
It's narrated by Slash, who, along with Lemmy, includes Traffic's Dave Mason, Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, The Animals vocalist and close friend of Jimi's, Eric Burdon, Free / Bad Company singer, Paul Rodgers, Cream's Ginger Baker, and many more. There is plenty of live footage, of course, so this is a must for the collection.
If you're quick, you get this DVD in a neat, hard-backed booklet with plenty of pages and words and photos, PLUS the 132 page Classic Rock magazine dedicated to all things Jimi Hendrix, which is a collector's piece par-excellence. Don't delay, buy it today!
