The patterns offered by this book are just what the title says : classic. You can make up your own fancy footwork using different colours and stitches, but the instructions for the basic garment are available here in a very reasonable number of sizes (look at the finished size rather than the size it's intended to fit). I choose to ignore the incongruous different edgings (bobbles and suchlike) which have nothing to do with the idea of 'classic', because at least they are attached to an otherwise classic garment. I am also ignoring the 'real women' thing. I am disappointed (2 stars' worth) that there are so few patterns using thicker yarn. Overall, I think it's hard to get excited about basic classic styles, but the book delivers what the title promises, which is some useful classic patterns.
A word of warning: there are two editions of this book: British and American, with hardly any difference between them other than their identification numbers.
