AVID Jazz here presents three classic Dave Brubeck albums plus, including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD. 'Time Out', 'Jazz Impressions Of Eurasia', and 'Dave Brubeck At Storyville: 1954' plus an extra bonus LP side from 'Jazz Impressions Of The U.S.A'. What can we say about the classic Brubeck album 'Time Out' and its most famous track 'Take Five' that has not been said before?! Only that in our humble opinion this is the best re-mastered version you will ever hear and is now the only version you will ever need to own! Our other classic albums find DB travelling across Europe and Asia for 'Jazz Impressions of Eurasia' where he channels his experiences into tracks like 'Marble Arch', 'Brandenburg Gate' and the eastern inspired 'Calcutta Blues'. As a contrast to his live college recordings our next offering finds DB live 'At Storyville: 1954' where we can clearly hear the contrast between a rousing DB in a college setting and a more laid back DB in a night club mood! We conclude with the first side of 'Jazz Impressions of the USA' written from notebook scribblings while the band were touring across the USA. All three albums plus, have been digitally re-mastered for probably the finest sound quality ever!

I have bought quite a few of these Avid collections and found all of them to be excellent value. The sound quality of all the CD's I have heard are very good. I really cannot understand John Gregory's comments about sound being "terrible, almost unlistenable" as I doubt whether most people will find these anything but enjoyable. I admit that I do not have the old Vinyl copy to compare with but I do have a very good and very revealing Hi-Fi system yet find no fault in these CD collections.
All the CD collections I have tried from Avid represent exceptional value, this one included. They are not just enjoyeble for those of us who enjoy Jazz of the 1950's but at £3.99 well worth sampling by those who are not familiar with the likes of Dave Bruback, Stan Getz, Barney Kessel, Lionel Hampton and so many more superb musicians. Don't let a negative comments from a purist put you off. Obviously they were recorded onto tape over 50 years ago and lack the fancy digital dynamic-range enhancements. They are simply great sounding disks and a very enjoyable listen, whether you use a high quality Hi-Fi or iPod.

"Brandenburg Gate" has been one of my favourite pieces of music for many years but I never owned a copy and hadn't heard it played for longer than I care to admit, so being able to buy it from Amazon now I have a computer was an opportunity not to be missed. If you haven't heard it yet please give yourself a real treat and the other tracks are equally worth listening to."Here Lies Love" is so mellow and throughout Paul Desmond's Sax is awesome! Listen to some of the samples and you will see [hear] what I mean. This re-mastered version sounds even better than I remember it [on original 45!] and as far as value for money is concerned I don't think you could do better.

Fantastic value for money
