Stories are long 27 Dec. 2009
By DSB - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I bought this for my almost 6 year old granddaughter. Of course, when I sit down to read it, the 3 yr. old climbs up in my lap and listens intently. Both girls love the stories, but I have to admit, I wish they weren't so long. I felt certain that the girls wouldn't sit still that long, but they don't mind at all. Yes, there are a few gory details in the book, but surely people realize that the original fairy tales are very violent and gruesome. The title states that these are "classic" fairy tales....so buyer be warned. The only detail so far that has bothered me was the stepmother in Snow White eating the liver and lungs of what she thought was Snow White. If you've seen the Disney Snow White movie, you know that the woodcutter brings her the heart of an animal instead of Snow White's heart. OK, that's pretty gruesome. Only the cannibalism makes the story in the book any worse. The illustrations are beautiful. My only complaint is the length of the stories. A few pages shorter would have been fine with me. Each story is about 12 pages long and that includes at least one full page illustration and several smaller illustrations.
Five on content, three on editing 22 Aug. 2013
By Penny Thoughtful - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
My 7- and 3-year-olds are spellbound by these timeless stories, which, like the originals, are not sugarcoated or happy-Disneyized. My kids like Disney fluff as much as anyone else but they really are attentive to the classics. We all enjoy reading them (I wish I read German so I could see for myself if they really are like the originals). I am taking away one star because the entire text is littered with typographical errors, which are distracting. Other than that, I recommend this book if you want well-told, classic stories.

Tales in this book 29 Aug. 2010
By Susie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I cannot properly rate this book because I have never seen it, but I didn't want to bring the ratings down, so I put 5 stars. I found all 14 titles that are in this book. Since you cannot view the table of contents I thought others may want to know which tales are in here, besides the few listed in the description.

Snow White, Thumbelina, Three Little Pigs, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Ugly Duckling, Puss in Boots, Beauty and the Beast, Jack the Giant Killer, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Emperor's New Clothes, and Princess and the Pea.

Horrible story telling. 14 Nov. 2009
By J. Rogers - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I bought this book for my 3 year old daughter. The stories are scary and difficult to read. I have to "edit" the stories, and have finally tossed the book. The pictures are also scary and violent. I do not recommend this book, particularly for young children.
