Plus of course...a really tasty murder to solve.
In Death by Chocolate, it's Easter Sunday 15 April 1900 and Paris is the centre of world attention as millions of visitors arrive for the opening weekend of the International Exposition. Amongst them is an elite but diverse group of individuals staying at the Hotel Paradiso. As they gather for dinner, however, the peace of the hotel is rocked by an explosion. Billy Bonka, the foremost chocolate manufacturer in America, is found dead in his room, having apparently been killed by an exploding Easter Egg. Suspicion falls on the people around this table. Your task is to discover who that killer is. Fortunately the famous amateur detective Hercule McClue is on hand to assist your investigations.
This game includes a DVD with special cameo appearance by Michael Winner. This game is guarantee to be drop dead fun, and that by the end of the evening one (or more) of the suspects, your friends will be caught out as the murderer! This game is for 6 - 8 players and suitable for ages teen and up.

Murder Mystery partys have become all the rage ammongst the middle classes and so I felt it my duty to hold one to celebrate my birthday.
And Death By Chocolate is a fabulous night if ever I had one! It is suitable for 6-8 characters and offers a hilarious night in. The characters in this game are brillient to act out and the costumes required for most of them isn't too difficult to get hold of, keeping the cost of the night down.
The game is quite confusing if it is the first murder mystery ever played, so it is advisable that the host of the evening makes sure they fully understand the rules and instructions so as to keep the evening running smoothly.
This murder mystery is fantastic for chocolate lovers and is an excellent fun and adventurous night in!

Over the years I have hosted many Murder Mysteries and whilst it's not the best that I have used it is still up there with the better ones. Everything is in the box to help you host a successful party. The invites (and envelopes) stating each characters info, place cards, instruction booklet for the host, a DVD that you use during the game to keep the party on track. The character costume information is also very helpful as is the suggested menu for dinner. If you loosely follow the game instructions you cannot fail to have a great time. During our party all the guests came in full costume some with French accents too! We downloaded some French accordion music (from Amazon) which we played on a loop throughout the night and we had a Chocolate fountain to complete the theme! All our guest are looking forward to our next themed night.

This was only the second murder mystery I'd played, and my first as 'host'. I chose this one as I thought the characters sounded fun and relatively easy for my guests to get costumes for (you can get more info on the characters in this and the other games from the manufacturer's website). My friends went to a lot of effort to dress up and play their parts and that's what really made the night - haven't laughed so much for a long time! There were only 6 of us and that worked fine. The plot generally flowed ok although a couple of times they summarised things in the DVD that we hadn't covered so we got a bit confused! The murderer does not find out who they are until the last round - no one at my party guessed who it was!
My tips for a fun evening are for the host to read through the instructions carefully before the night; give the bigger, more extrovert characters to more confident people; keep the meal simple so you don't lose the flow of the game from big breaks due to food preparation; finally, don't take it too seriously - the plot is a bit dodgy in places but still lots of fun!
